The finish line is in sight!

Sound mixing has commenced on Orson Welles’ legendary The Other Side of the Wind.

Producer Frank Marshall, who was a line producer on the original 1970s shoot, offered a status update and behind-the-scenes photograph on Twitter today.

“Thrilled to be working again with Academy Award winner Scott Millan, as we begin the final mix of THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND. After all these years, it’s kind of surreal…,” Marshall tweeted.

Millan, who has won four Academy Awards for his work, is sound director for Technicolor at Paramount Studios. He is a also a member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

His Oscars were bestowed for Apollo 13, Gladiator, Ray and The Bourne Ultimatum. His other big screen credits include Schindler’s List, Skyfall and Braveheart

Audio mixing follows the automated dialogue replacement (ADR), or looping, and recording of composer Michel Legrand’s score in Europe last month.

Three weeks ago, fellow producer Filip Jan Rymsza revealed  that a locked picture was in place. “We’re now out of editorial and into dust-busting, restoration and color-timing.”

An early edit of The Other Side of the Wind  had its first screening on January 16 in Santa Monica, California, before a small, select audience of “friends and family.”

Netflix will stream The Other Side of the Wind to 117 million subscribers worldwide later this year.

The movie takes place at the 70th birthday party of director Jake Hannaford (John Huston), who is struggling to complete his comeback film during the rise of  New Hollywood. The party is attended by young directors, like Brooks Otterlake (Peter Bogdanovich), hangers-on and critics. Hannaford dies at the conclusion of the party. Welles’ movie recounts Hannaford’s final hours using a mix of 16mm and 35mm color and black-and-white film shot at the party, along with scenes from his unfinished movie.  Oja Kodar, Robert Random, Cameron Mitchell, Mercedes McCambridge, Susan Strasberg and  Edmond O’Brien round out the cast.
