Orson Welles’ ‘The Stranger’ to get Blu-ray release from Kino Classics

The Stranger

“The Stranger,” Orson Welles’ 1946 thriller about a Nazi war criminal hiding out in a sleepy Connecticut town, will get a proper Blu-ray release this fall.

Kino Classics is promising a brand new 1080p HD transfer of a 35mm restoration from the Library of Congress on Oct. 15. The release will carry a $34.95 list price.

Bonus features include an audio commentary from filmmaker and author Bret Wood and original Nazi concentration and prison camp footage featured in the final film from filmmaker George Stevens, as well as the original theatrical trailer.

Wellesnetter Justin Hartley pointed out the Blu-ray is listed for pre-orders on amazon.com

The upcoming Kino Blu-ray will hopefully thrill those disappointed with HD Cinema Classic’s release of “The Stranger” back in early 2011.

The release comes as a remake of “The Stranger” is underway.

“The Stranger” is the latest Welles’ film to get a proper Blu-ray release.

Kino Lorber, according to Digital bits, will release “The Trial” this later this year and Universal Home Video is working on a remastering of “Touch of Evil.”

On Nov. 12, Twilight Time will released a limited run of “Jane Eyre,” which Welles starred in and (uncredited) produced.

“Citizen Kane” is available on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video.
