‘Citizen Kane’ 75th anniversary Blu-ray set for release on November 15

kane-75Updated:  Details on extras, new trailer.

To mark the 75th anniversary of Orson Welles’ landmark film Citizen Kane, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will reissue the movie on Blu-ray and DVD on November 15.

Remastered and restored from original RKO Pictures nitrate elements in 4K resolution, the film will be available on DVD ($14.97) and Blu-ray ($19.98).

Co-written and directed by its 25-year-old star, Citizen Kane has been called the finest film to come out of Hollywood. The late Roger Ebert once noted, “This towering achievement is as fresh, as provoking, as entertaining, as sad, as brilliant as it ever was. Many agree it is the greatest film of all time.”

Warner Bros.’ announcement promises a “wide variety of DVD and Blu-ray extras will be included in all editions.”

Packaging on Amazon reveals it is a single disc with separate audio commentaries by Ebert and Peter Bogdanovich and interviews with the late Ruth Warrick (“Emily Kane”) and film editor Robert Wise. It also includes a featurette,  Opening: World Premier of Citizen Kane, and still photography with a commentary by Ebert. ALL of those extras previously appeared on the 70th anniversary release, which was also in 4K resolution.

Meanwhile,  the American Film Institute will mount a special screening of the restored Citizen Kane master on November 13.

The screening will take place at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood at 1:30 p.m., followed by an AFI Master Class, featuring Bogdanovich with a celebrity and academic panel to be announced.
