With the reopening of movie theaters, classic film fans can look forward to seeing Citizen Kane on the big screen again, courtesy of TCM and Fathom Events.

At select movie theaters nationwide, Fathom Events will show Orson Welles’ landmark 1941 film on Sunday, September 19, and Wednesday, September 22. Tickets may be purchased online at fathomevents.com/events/Citizen-Kane-80th-Anniversary-presented-by-TCM-(2021).

Other films being shown by TCM/Fathom Events this fall include The Silence of the Lambs (30th anniversary), West Side Story (60th anniversary) and On Golden Pond (40th anniversary).

“This year has shown us that watching movies on the big screen is not an experience to take for granted, and 2021’s lineup of films has something for every movie lover,” said Genevieve McGillicuddy, vice president of enterprises and strategic partnerships at TCM.

Tom Lucas, Fathom Events vice president of studio relations, added, “Year after year, the TCM Big Screen Classics series proves to be among our most requested programming. We are excited to bring another exciting line-up of films across a variety of genres.”

Citizen Kane will be presented in its original aspect ratio with pre- and post-film commentaries by TCM hosts.

Nominated for nine Academy Awards, Citizen Kane won an Oscar for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) by Herman J. Mankiewicz and Welles.

Citizen Kane was voted No. 1 in five consecutive Sight & Sound polls of critics, and it topped the American Film Institute’s 100 Years … 100 Movies list in 1998.

Citizen Kane was selected by the Library of Congress as an inductee of the 1989 inaugural group of 25 films for preservation in the  National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
