The Deep, based on Charles Williams' novel Dead Calm, was to be a straightforward thriller, probably on a par with something like The Stranger - a film with a solid story that had the potential to make some money.
The film, made out of Welles' pocket, never reached completion, due to various problems, the fatal one being the death of cast member Laurence Harvey. The footage that was shot still survives, a small portion of which can be seen in the One Man Band documentary. The footage is held by the Munich Film Insitute, who received it from Oja Kodar in 1998.
