All
is Brazil.(Tudo
E Brazil) The third of director Rogerio Sganzerla's documentaries on Welles
and his time in Brazil making It's All True, this one uses recordings,
archival footage and photos of Welles, as well as art and music of Brazilian
musicians, to paint a loose picture of Welles' time in Brazil and his
interaction with the culture. Very non-linear in construction, and frustrating
if you're looking for a more straightforward documentary about that period
of Welles' career. Not available commercially, but it can be found on
the grey market. 82 minutes. |
 |
The
Battle Over Citizen Kane. This version of the DVD is currently out
of print, as the film is also available on the Citizen Kane DVD
set from Warner Bros. The two discs are identical. |
 |
It's
All True. Released on VHS and laserdisc. Video catalog # 5040 (Paramount). |
 |
It's
Not All True.
Director Rogerio Sganzerla's first of three documentaries about Welles,
in which the story of Welles' work on It's All True is re-constructed.
Not available commercially. In Portugese, 95 minutes. |

The
Language of Orson Welles.
Rogerio Sganzerla's second work on Welles, this short (22 min) film details
more about Welles in Brazil. The description I saw of this didn't make
it too clear what it was about, so I'll leave it at that. Not available
commercially. In Portugese. |

The
Magnificent Welles. Written, directed by, and starring Marcus Wolland,
this one man play is set in Rio in the spring of 1942, as Welles discusses
his life amidst the wreckage of Ambersons. Available from Stage
Direct. Detailed review here. |
 |
One
Man Band. This documentary, newly re-edited for broadcast in the U.S.,
presents clips from many of Welles' later, unreleased/unfinished work
for the first time. Original version made in Europe, copies of which have
been available on the underground circuit for years, although it has not
had an official release in the U.S. in that version. The new version features
narration by Peter Bogdanovich. |
 |
The
Orson Welles Story. This interview with Leslie Megahey of the BBC
was broadcast in 1982, and covers the span of Welles' career, focusing
mainly on his film work. It was broadcast in a truncated form as Stories
From a Life in Film by TNT. Bootlegs of the full broadcast are available
through clandestine sources... |

RKO
Story: It's All True. From the series The RKO Story, this episode
focused on Welles and his time with the studio, which of course ended
badly for all. Recommended. Not available on video. |
 |
Rosabella:
Orson Welles in Italy. A documentary looking at Welles' expatriate
days in Italy, and includes interviews with many cast and crew members
who worked for Welles. |
 |
Working
