Producer Joseph Infantolino has nabbed the film rights to Josh Karp’s book Orson Welles’s Last Movie: The Making of The Other Side of the Wind.’
Infantolino (Helena From the Wedding and Run Fatboy Run) has brought in Suraj Gohill, former CIT Group head of indie finance and current CFO of Ivanhoe Pictures, and Mark Aronson, CEO of Liquidity Partners, on board as the film’s executive producers.
“It is a huge honor and responsibility to bring to the big screen the incredible true story of the last ride of one of the most influential directors and larger than life personalities of all time,” Infantolino told The Wrap. “I’m incredibly grateful for Josh’s book, not just as a road map down the rabbit hole, but also because such a fascinating story would be impossible to make up in the first place.”
The acclaimed book was published last month by St. Martin’s Press.
Karp, who worked on the book for four years, teaches journalism at Northwestern. His work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Playboy and Salon. He is the author of A Futile and Stupid Gesture: How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever and Straight Down the Middle: Shivas Irons, Bagger Vance and How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love My Golf Swing.
Karp’s movie deal comes as the producers of The Other Side of the Wind have launched a $2 million crowdfunding campaign through Indiegogo to complete the 40-year-old film. They have hired Affonso Gonçalves ( Beasts of the Southern Wild and Winter’s Bone) to edit The Other Side of the Wind.
