An all-Guild screening of The Other Side of the Wind is set for Thursday, October 11, at Los Angeles’ Raleigh Studios, the former Producers Studio where Orson Welles filmed some of the movie four decades ago.
The evening screening will include a Q&A with producers Frank Marshall and Filip Jan Rymsza, editor Bob Murawski and post-production supervisor Ruth Hasty.
The invitation-only event is open to Guild members and a guest with a RSVP required and early arrival strongly recommended.
Welles shot some of the drive-in movie theater scenes for The Other Side of the Wind and guests departing for Jake Hannaford’s 70th birthday party at Producers Studio, located across from Paramount.
The all-Guild screening, which could give the film a boost during awards season, is sandwiched between showings at USC Cinematic Arts – Ray Stark Theater on October 10 and the American Cinematheque on October 16.
The Other Side of the Wind takes place at the 70th birthday party of maverick director J.J. “Jake” Hannaford (John Huston), who is struggling to complete his comeback film during the rise of New Hollywood. Attending the party are successful young directors, like Brooks Otterlake (Peter Bogdanovich), hangers-on and critics. Hannaford dies at the conclusion of the party. Welles’ movie recounts Hannaford’s final hours using a mix of 16mm and 35mm color and black-and-white film shot at the party, along with scenes from his unfinished movie.
Welles shot The Other Side of the Wind between 1970 and 1976, but it remained unedited and unreleased until 2018 when it was completed for Netflix.
It will be released to select theaters and streamed to 130 million subscribers in 190 countries on November 2.
