The Whaling Museum in Nantucket, Massachusetts, will serve as the stage for Orson Welles’ Moby Dick – Rehearsed this summer.

The Nantucket Historical Association in partnership with Theatre Workshop of Nantucket is staging a reading of Welles’ adaptation of the Herman Melville classic on July 14-17 and August 11-14 at the museum on 13 Broad St. The play was first staged June 16 to July 9, 1955, at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London and starred Welles, Gordon Jackson, Christopher Lee, Patrick McGoohan and Joan Plowright.

Theatre Workshop of Nantucket’s adaptation, directed by and starring Artistic Director John Shea (Southie, Lois and Clark), comes alive under the 46-foot sperm whale skeleton in the Whaling Museum’s Gosnell Hall.

Shea and the Theatre Workshop have performed Moby Dick – Rehearsed before sold out Massachusetts audiences in three previous seasons.

“‘Back and extended by popular demand’ are the six words that sum up the 2014 production of Moby Dick Rehearsed,” said Gabrielle Gould, Theatre Workshop of Nantucket’s executive director. “We are beyond thrilled to see the demand for such a wonderful event. To have TWN Artistic Director John Shea back as the indomitable Ahab, as well as taking charge directing the production is sure to bring this beloved performance to new heights for its fourth year. We love continuing our collaboration with the NHA, and are thrilled to be back in Gosnell Hall working with this amazing team. We promise a night to be remembered!”

All performances will begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online at www.nha.org/tickets or by calling (508) 228-1894.

On July 17 and August 14, a cocktail reception and meet and greet with the cast will follow the performance. Admission for the show and reception and cast meet and greet is $75.
