Netflix has officially kicked off is award season push, suggesting Orson Welles and The Other Side of the Wind for special recognition in 11 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Film Editing.
Actors John Huston and Peter Bogdanovich are also suggested as worthy of consideration, as well as cinematographer Gary Graver and composer Michel Legrand.
The streaming giant has posted its For Your Consideration 2018 page at awards.netflix.com. There are 20 films touted by Netflix, including The Other Side of the Wind, the companion documentary They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead and such films as ROMA, 22 July and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
In addition to suggested honorees, the website posts screening dates and locations, though there are no dates mentioned so far for The Other Side of the Wind, but four have been posted for They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead.
The films would be eligible for Academy Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Golden Globes from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and other cinematic honors. (The For Your Consideration 2018 website page tab is designated “Netflix AMPAS FYC”).
