‘Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds’ eyed as TV series

Orson Welles and his covert battle against Martian invaders may be coming to TV.

Scout Comics & Entertainment has partnered with screenwriter R. Christopher Murphy to develop Orson Welles: Warrior of the Words as a television series. The comic was written and created by Milton Lawson and features art by Erik Whalen. Scout is attached to produce along with the Estate of Orson Welles.

Murphy co-wrote the hit horror film Ready or Not, and wrote episodes for the Stephen King-inspired series Castle Rock, well as Stan Against Evil.

“I’m thrilled that R. Christopher Murphy is partnering up with us to develop Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds as a television series,” Lawson said. “Murphy is an incredibly talented screenwriter and even though this process is in its early days, I can already tell Murphy is the right guy for the job – he really gets what we’re trying to do with this story.”

Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds is a graphic novel series with the premise that Welles’s legendary War of the Worlds radio broadcast in 1938 was not a prank: an alien invasion really happened. After Welles’s first interaction with aliens, he joins an organization that defends Earth from extraterrestrial threats and lives a double life as a film director by day, alien-hunter by night.

Scout Comics & Entertainment was founded in 2015 and has over 300 titles in their catalog. Scout books have sold to Disney, Amazon Studios, Rooster Teeth, and FilmNation, among many others.
