The IFC Center in New York’s West Village is the first the theater offering a week-long run of The Other Side of the Wind on November 2, the same day it is available to 137 million Netflix subscribers worldwide.

A Los Angeles run is expected to be announced shortly. (The Gateway Film Center in Columbus, Ohio, has since announced it will offer a week-long run on November 2.)

The Roxie in San Francisco has expanded its single showing to a three-day run, November 2-4. Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque will also show the film that weekend.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rules require a film to be screened for seven consecutive days in Los Angeles and New York to be eligible for an Academy Award. (“Notice, he didn’t say Oscar”).

Netflix has created a For Your Consideration 2018 page at awards.netflix.com, touting The Other Side of the Wind for honors in 11 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Film Editing.

Located at 323 Sixth Avenue at West 3rd Street, the IFC Center was formerly the Waverly Theater. It is owned by AMC Networks, the entertainment company that owns operates AMC, IFC, WE tv and Sundance Channel and the film company IFC Films.

The IFC Center plans to screen The Other Side of the Wind five times daily and has set up a web page for advance ticket purchases.

It is also running Directed By Orson Welles, an eight-film retrospective, from October 26 through November 1, which will include a brand new 4K restoration of The Magnificent Ambersons.

The cinema will also begin its run of the Morgan Neville companion documentary They’ll Love Me When I’m, Dead, on November 2.

Both films have already been screened at film festivals in Venice, Telluride and New York.

There have been special single night  showings at other events and locations.

The Other Side of the Wind takes place at the 70th birthday party of maverick director J.J. “Jake” Hannaford (John Huston), who is struggling to complete his comeback film during the rise of  New Hollywood. Attending the party are successful young directors, like Brooks Otterlake (Peter Bogdanovich), hangers-on and critics. Hannaford dies at the conclusion of the party. Welles’ movie recounts Hannaford’s final hours using a mix of 16mm and 35mm color and black-and-white film shot at the party, along with scenes from his unfinished movie, which stars Oja Kodar and Bob Random.

Welles shot The Other Side of the Wind between 1970 and 1976. It remained unedited and unreleased until 2018 when it was completed for Netflix by Bogdanovich, producers Filip Jan Rymsza and Frank Marshall, and Academy Award winning editor Bob Murawski.
