The Other Side of the Wind will get a special screening Wednesday, December 11, at Filmoteca de Catalunya in Barcelona with the film library’s director, noted Orson Welles scholar Esteve Riambau, providing an introduction.

It is fitting that the film finally get a big screen showing in Welles’ beloved Spain since the story’s roots date back to an early 1960s project The Sacred Beasts involving an aging director and a matador.

“I will explain the long journey of the project from the Spanish origins of The Sacred Beasts to the recent reconstruction under the production of Netflix,” Riambau told Wellesnet. “My personal opinion is to make a distinction between a ‘restoration’ of a film finished by its author and a ‘reconstruction’ made by others from the original materials, but involving subjective decisions about the editing, the score or the digital effects.”

He said he was grateful to Netflix for allowing  Filmoteca de Catalunya to screen The Other Side of the Wind, which previously has only been available there to subscribers of the streaming service.

Riambau has served as director of Filmoteca de Catalunya for nearly a decade. He is a professor at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona’s Department of Audiovisual Communication.

He is also co-writer of the documentary Orson Welles in the Land of Don Quixote and written such books as Orson Welles: una Espana inmortal; Su seguro servidor, Orson Welles; Orson Welles: el espectáculo sin límites; and Las cosas que hemos visto – Welles y Falstaff.
