Re: Welles in Brussels Reacting to TOUCH OF EVIL
A shame to lose that interesting interview, although things do come and go on the Internet. I remember Welles saying in it that the release version of TOUCH OF EVIL is not too far from what he had originally envisioned, and IIRC, he also talks about DON QUIXOTE, describing it as his attempt to make ...

Well, let's see how PADDINGTON 2 does in the Sight and Sound poll next year.

Re: The Late Great Planet Earth (1979)
I'd love to read that sometime. Gore Vidal did a great South Bank Show in the mid-80s in which he accused then-president Ronald Reagan of being a big fan of Lindsey's book. I'll have to see if I can get that uploaded sometime. I also stumbled on this interesting look back at Bob Dylan's Christian ph...

Re: Cavalcade of America
Upgrades for several of the Welles episodes here, and we can right-click and save-as - nice. https://auislandora.wrlc.org/islandora/search/dc.description%3A%28orson%29 Terry and Craig, thanks for the link. Very nice site, and yes, the sound quality is better for these shows than I've heard before. ...

Re: Lost 1936 Show - FOUND!
There are earlier surviving recordings of Welles than that. He's on the following episodes of Cavalcade of America: 12-18-1935 Defiance of Nature 01-01-1936 The Declaration of Independence 01-15-1936 Building and Architecture 01-29-1936 Enterprise It would be interesting to hear these. This was rig...

Re: WPA doc: 'New Deal for Artists'
Rented this and enjoyed it. It's a beautiful, flawless looking restoration and Welles's narration is featured a lot. One thing this program emphasizes that I hadn't considered enough is how one of the main goals of the Federal Theater Project was to expand theater beyond its traditional boundaries o...

Re: Lost 1936 Show - FOUND!
Craig, I tried to pull up the show, but I couldn't find it at the link you provided. I did pull up some other OTR shows at that link, including one with Talulah Bankhead that had very nice sound quality, but I couldn't pull up anything with Orson Welles or Arthur Anderson, nor did I see it on the li...

Re: OW Almanac Question
Thanks Terry. I'd been wanting to hear the Jimmy Noone tribute for a long time, after having read about it in several Welles books. Nice intro by Welles, and even with the less than top-notch sound quality, one can sense that the band members were playing with heavy hearts, although still playing we...

Re: Algiers - on the radio
Thanks for the link, Craig. Yes, that is a very impressive list of acting talent; what one wouldn't give to hear Olivier's Henry Higgins opposite Vivian Leigh's Eliza Doolittle. I guess we can only hope that some of that season survives in private collections. The Campbell Playhouse's third season w...

Re: Happy Welles Day!
Callow has an ambivalent attitude towards Welles, but it's pretty amazing to watch him talk and talk about him for over two hours, even if some of it is inaccurate. I was especially struck by his opinion that THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND should have been left alone and not finished; that only Welles c...

Re: Algiers - on the radio
Interesting. I wonder if Bourbon had Houseman do a radio adaptation of her own story, ATLANTIC ADVENTURER, published in Hearst's Cosmopolitan in 1934, and then made into a movie the next year.

Re: Hunt for lost 'Magnificent Ambersons' footage in Brazil
I'll be ecstatic if they find something, but then I'd be satisfied if they just find out some info about what happened to the print and the footage. I hope this trip finally puts an end to the legend of the "lost Brazil print", one way or the other.

Re: Algiers - on the radio
Good story about the ALGIERS broadcast in Wikipedia, taken from Leonard Maltin's book, THE GREAT BROADCAST: After 20 shows, Campbell began to exercise more creative control over The Campbell Playhouse, and had complete control over story selection. Diana Bourbon, an account executive from the Ward W...

Re: Hunt for lost 'Magnificent Ambersons' footage in Brazil
Plus maybe Netflix will also show some interest in buying HOPPER/WELLES and anything more to come from the footage. But the attention being given to this effort seems to imply better odds for success than the actual known facts would seem to warrant. Nothing is impossible but I agree with you. In an...

Re: Hunt for lost 'Magnificent Ambersons' footage in Brazil
I'm curious as to who owns it. Ted Turner, I'm assuming. In that case, how much would he be willing to pay to get it back if, by some miracle, it is found, but the person who possesses it is not inclined to turn it over for free?
