Hey All-
There's a new Film Journal Orson Welles article linked on the "They Shoot Pictures, Don't They?" website. Appologies if this has been previously posted.

MMRABIN- I got the Cyberhome model CH-DVD 300S. It does not play all regions out of the box. However, I can verify that the hacks at the link posted by R Kadin work. This is the very site that I went to after buying the unit. Using the hacks listed (which are no more than just a couple steps) you ca...

Tony- I got the restored "Macbeth" from Amazon.uk, it is region 2 and Pal and would not play in a region 1 player. Because so many of Welles' films are unavailable in region 1, I recommend getting a second player - I got a Cyberhome DVD player from Best Buy (about $40). It handles both NTSC & PAL an...

Hi All- The Spanish "Chimes" DVD recently arrived (which is FABUOUS). According to the opening title card of the film, it is called "FALSTAFF" with "Chimes at Midnight" smaller and in parenthesis. Is this how ALL the title cards read, or are there variations as in Mr. Arkadin? If not, why is the fil...

Hi all-
Can anyone tell me: Is the Studio Canal "Trial" DVD available on Amazon.uk the same as the French DVD? That is, does it contain the deleted scenes, etc?

Much thanks.

Hi All- I just got from Amazon.uk a copy of Confidential Report and am thrilled with the improvement over my utterly crappy Mr. Arkadin DVD. Two quesitons: Is Confidential Report the #1Voyager version? Is the Mr. Arkadin DVD the #2 version? If not, which versions are they? (using the number system f...

Can you elaborate on your statement that DVD-Rs "Don't last forever"? What kind of problems have you had with them? Does anyone else concur?

WOW! Great News! R. Kadin- I saw the video several years ago, but the thing I remember most is the striking cinematography. Especially in the "Three Men and a Raft" segment, which I believe was shot mostly by Welles himself after the studio had tried to pull the plug on the project and he opted to s...

Me-
I think I'm over simplifying. The point of the film is whether or not an artist has validity even if he is a "bad artist".

Jarpie- I suppose he could have met OW, but as I understand it, the scene in question is a fabrication to highlight the theme of the film which poses the question, "If a filmmaker had the gumption, charisma and wherewithall of Orson Welles but no talent, what would he be like?" On the other hand, I ...

Sir Bygber- I too liked "Grand Illusion" quite a bit. All the more reason I was so amazed at how little "Rules" moved me. I recommend seeing it, if only to hear what you have to say about it. Blunted- I'm so glad you mentioned "L'Aventurra". What a suck movie that is. The first part really had me go...
