Re: Netflix films headed to Criterion; no word on ‘The Other Side of the Wind’

Netflix is giving Criterion The Irishman in November, and the January 2021 releases from Criterion include another Netflix title Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese . So it looks like the stream of Netflix titles to Criterion is continuing. It is good news, in a general sens...

Re: Netflix films headed to Criterion; no word on ‘The Other Side of the Wind’

I backed this project on Indiegogo more than five years ago, and a blu-ray was part of the deal. While I appreciate the herculean effort it took to finally finish the film, I'm at the point with the blu-ray where I just want my money back.

Ray, any chance you can work your magic and get an update from Filip on the blu-rays the original project backers were promised? It's been quite some time with no updates.

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix

The film has debuted as the 8th most popular title on Netflix, according to instantwatcher.com, which lets users see the most popular titles (updated every 24 hours). They'll Love Me When I'm Dead has come in at #21. Honestly, that's more successful than I thought either would be, so I'm pleasantly ...

The trailer easily exceeded my expectations. The footage looks nothing short of stunning.

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix

This is the part of Ray's article that got me. she said she thought she would be let in on the editing process of the decades old material, but wasn't. Being the daughter of a talented filmmaker doesn't mean she knows anything about editing. Frankly, I'm thankful she wasn't consulted and that those ...

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix

Thank you for the valuable updates, Ray. It sounds like the film is coming together nicely. Was anyone else on here an IndieGoGo backer? I'm curious about when we'll receive our blu-rays. Based on Filip's comments, they will apparently only be made for those of us who originally backed the project, ...

Re: Quixote negative given to Oja Kodar

I would be interested in seeing a team of Welles experts--perhaps even the crew who are currently completing TOSOTW--use the forty minutes edited and dubbed by Welles as a starting point for another attempted completion. However, if that proves impossible, a documentary (similar to It's All True ) w...

I'm so excited for this. Now I just need to pick up Josh Karp's book to get myself fully informed before the release.

New 4K Restoration of "Compulsion" (1959)

Kino Lorber Studio Classics just announced that a new 4K restoration of Richard Fleischer's 1959 film Compulsion, starring Welles as defense attorney Jonathan Wilk, is coming soon on blu-ray. Extras have not been announced.

Re: Is Oja Kodar holding up The Other Side of the Wind?

Ray is correct in his assertion that Oja has been given a pass over the years. For a long time, the "Beatrice = bad/Oja = good" binary seemed the commonly accepted narrative. But now, Beatrice seems to be much more amenable to getting more of her father's work in front of the public, and O...

Re: Chimes at Midnight & Too Much Johnson on Blu-ray

Do everything you can to avoid the Mr. Bongo blu-ray of Chimes at Midnight. It's not restored, the picture looked utterly washed out with a complete absence of actual blacks, and audio sync problems remain. Wait for the Criterion release. Mr. Bongo completely botched it.

Re: Pristine print of Chimes Found

Those screen grabs do look very good. Hello, Criterion? With Beatrice's announcement that a major label is interested in restoring and releasing this film, that would be my guess, especially since they're releasing Othello on blu-ray. And if it is Criterion, you know they'll do a great job with it....
