A weekly discussion of Welles' exhilarating radio shows sounds like a fabulous idea-- I'm in!

This is a paper I wrote for a film class last year (my freshman year in college). I thought you guys might enjoy it (but beware--the comma splice is out of control :)!). Heard Melodies Are Sweet, but Those Unheard Are Sweeter Welles’ Mutilated Masterpiece: The Magnificent Ambersons Written by: Joshu...

Thanks, mteal, however, I seem to distinctly remember (and I certainly hope I'm remembering correctly) the quote coming from the mouth of Welles himself...

Hello, I'm looking for a quote of Orson Welles' where he claims that all one needs in life is a firm understanding of Shakespeare and the Holy Bible (or something along these lines). The quote's for an upcoming Cinema History paper on The Magnificent Ambersons . My paper's thesis is very firmly root...

Yeesh! Where does the Criterion LD fit into all this; is it the same as the R2 DVD, or what?! Also, as has been said time and time again, the DVD w/ the Tony Curtis intro is an absolutely atrocious DVD. Once you get over the general fact that Tony Curtis is doing an intro. for Arkadin, the writing o...

Lance, do you still not have a copy of Macbeth?! I could've sent it to you w/ F For Fake... oh well. Wellesfan, I suppose grandiose may've been the wrong word to describe Welles' Shakespeare. I suppose I always go back to Macbeth running onto a hill [I]shouting[I] for the weird sisters with lightnin...

Well, I just got done listening to Heart of Darkness from This Is My Best and I'm sorry to say that, technical problems notwithstanding, it's, in my mind, a worse adaptation than Welles' Mercury effort. Almost all the additions I found quite annoying, most notably the silly inclusion of Kurtz's fian...

Would anyone on here that has the *.mp3 file of Welles' 1945 Heart of Darkness, be kind enough to send a copy my way? I've got a T1 connection at my college so it would literally take about 20 seconds if you have a high-speed connection.

It Definitely Helps! Thanks alot for the incredibly thorough response, Glenn Anders. I certainly didn't mean to degrade Welles' radio work because I've gotten enjoyment out of all the shows I've heard. The adaptation I was most dissapointed with (that I've heard) was Les Miserables. It's been a whil...

Are you seeing the film for the first time or are you looking to update your version?

Just curious because I just got the Criterion LD off Ebay and I could make a VHS copy for you (no charge), if you want.

What's your favorite Welles radio show (either w/ the Mercury Theatre, Campbell Playhouse, or otherwise)? I certainly haven't listened to all of them, however, my current favorite is probably Dracula or A Tale of Two Cities . Unfortunately, I find the shows to be rather lacking as a whole. Though th...
