Re: TOSOTW - Coming in 2015!

Not to be pessimistic, but is there any word on what's going to happen if they don't reach their $2M goal? I see they've got a flexible campaign, so they'll get the money anyway (sans the 10% Indiegogo cut), but will they still have enough money to go ahead with the project?

Re: Official OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND Thread - All things OSotW he

This is all very exciting but I agree with others about the rumoured release. Even if they were sitting on a locked cut, to get the grade, sound and music completed by May is ambitious in itself. I'm expecting something much, much later.

Nonetheless, very good news all around.

Welles Retrospect at the Australian Cinémathèque

Hi all, I thought I'd bring this to your attention as some of you might find it interesting. The Australian Cinémathèque in Brisbane recently had a huge Orson Welles retrospect , which ran throughout April and May this year. The programme screened all of Welles' films, in addition to a number of doc...

Re: The Stranger

Interesting. I've seen only a few prints from the Library of Congress in cinemas (most recently the fabulous Cat People), but all of them have looked exceptional. Likewise, Kino put out continuously great releases.

Looking forward to this one.

Re: Chimes at Midnight Production Details?

Thanks again for the excellent reply. I'm inclined to agree with you about Treasure Island. It would seem unlikely that Welles, a great lover of Treasure Island and someone who struggled to find funding for film projects, had no intentions to direct the film. Likewise, surely Welles would have seen ...

Re: Chimes at Midnight Production Details?

Hi mido505, thanks for the thorough reply! You mention that Welles was meant to effectively "run the show" with Treasure Island. Was he ever meant to do anything more than act and write, such as direct or co-produce? After all, the Chimes + Treasure Island business would seem to be a very ...

Chimes at Midnight Production Details?

I'm interested in learning more about the production details of Chimes at Midnight. Specifically about what motivated the producers to pick up the project, budgetary information and a general history of the production. Does anyone know of any resources I could use to find out this information? It's ...

Re: Don Quijote

I don't have any Hollywood contacts, but I think we could all do our part to try and contact Jonathan Braun.

After a bit of research, I've found what appears to be his LinkedIn profile: http://www.linkedin.com/in/dimwit

Re: Six versions of CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT?!

This is extremely interesting! Considering this kind of thing screened at Venice, and Mr. Bongo managed to release a DVD of Falstaff itself, could the rights issues be clearing up? Does anyone know where the film stands at the moment, legally speaking?

Re: Official Macbeth R1 DVD coming!

Restorations of CITIZEN KANE where one can see everyone in the news screening room is one esuch example. As Roger Ryan says, that's not a problem of the format but instead of the restoration process. But as far as Kane goes, the Blu-Ray is significantly darker than the 60th Anniversary DVD. You can...

...Universal for not releasing TOUCH OF EVIL on Blu Ray when they are celebrating their 100 anniversary! It's mad to me that Universal isn't bothering to release Touch of Evil for their 100th Anniversary, especially since Eureka showcased what fantastically good HD elements exist. I paid a visit to...

Re: Touch of Evil on Blu-ray

Does anyone know the specifics of why a full screen transfer of the preview version couldn't be included? I'm vaguely curious since the old laserdiscs and VHSes showed that this version was definitely available in full screen. Is it possible that the master print for the preview version got damaged...

Re: Chimes at Midnight - another new issue.

To be honest, I question how legitimate Mr Bongo actually are in obtaining rights. They have, allegedly, in the past avoided getting their films classified. Regardless, here's a review posted on Amazon.co.uk regarding the transfer of the new Mr Bongo release: This is purely a review of the new Mr Bo...

Re: Chimes at Midnight - another new issue.

DVD BEAVER has on their website a new dvd release link of Chimes as a region 2 British release on April 23 by Mr Bongo. The only info on the Amazon.co.uk website is that it is PAL disc at 113 minutes. Went to the Mr Bongo website but saw no info on the release...but from what i saw i think another ...

Re: Chimes at Midnight - Nostalgia Family Video

I have the Studio Canal release as well, and it definitely has the "Before the Law" parable at the beginning. I just went and double-checked it so I could be certain I remembered correctly. In the English language version, Welles narrates it, and in the French language version, it's dubbe...
