Re: Scripts

I managed to find some time and started reading them ...and what a treat they are! The Stranger script is a fantastic document - all the details I had hoped were in there are, along with some interesting new perspectives on the relationships. Always liked the film (ever since I found it on a grainy ...

Re: Scripts

Yes, I was quite excited when I found the links. Lady from Shanghai caught my eye instantly, as well as The Stranger (hoping it was the draft that Simon Callow talks of; detailing the dream/sleepwalking framework Welles intended). Not had a chance to flick though them yet ...but I'm glad that they a...

Scripts

Found a few Welles scripts on the web, different from the usual ones that float about on the script sites. Wondered how 'real' they were... CITIZEN KANE Herman J. Finally got around to picking up "It's All True" and I was very surprised by "Four Men on a Raft". I agree with the NY Times review about the editing (and the music ...almost had to turn it down and watch it silent), but the photography was breathtaking! Seeing 'shots' he would later explore in othe...

I agree - a bit! There were many great parts in this cut of the film: Flashes of Orson's talent, lost in a mess. I've always thought that it should have been edited better - less is more and take care!!! I can enjoy the first hour and (to an extent) the last 30mins - but after the first hour all 'ma...

Jeff, the UK VHS of Othello (the one with the red cover and the horrific painting of welles) is the restored version. I'm not sure if it says so on the front, but on the back there is a paragraph telling us so - and some information from Castle Hill Films which (I think) is the sole distributer of t...

The new(ish) UK Macbeth DVD is just a re-release of the previous one from 2000, the company is called Second Sight. But this time, the extra that it did have (the 'Return to Glennascaul' short and intoduction') are now moved to their new Othello disc. Details of Macbeth here Details of Othello here

Just a note to say - the UK will finally have a DVD of 'Touch of Evil' on 10/11/2003, according to Play.com

Seems to be the same as the US version, still no commentary of course...

I agree, the picture quality was much better than I expected and at a cost I couldn't complain at anyway! I've seen some reports sugesting that the sound was poor - again, I have to disagree: It's not perfect but pretty good.

It sure beats the old PAL laserdisc I had.

If it's any help - The very first UK release from 'Eureka Video' (with BRIGHT yellow artwork) looks pretty good, if perhaps a little dark, much better then my old video from 'Second Sight' anyway.

Not too sure if you can still buy it. Sorry I can't help you with the current 3 versions.

Hi There, I'm new to posting around here, but been around since the start (ish). Been a Welles fan for years, but I don't have anything too rare, can't usally find much in Scotland! I was wondering (and trying not to seem rude) about how I would be able to get a copy of your Othello DVD? Thanks Alan
