Ha, what a dreadful boring film. Slightly better news I guess is that the DVD plays fine, with no skips and jumps. What a shameful blu ray transfer.

Re: Treasure Island available on DVD from Warner Archive

Has anyone been desparate enough to try the Finnish Blu Ray sold as an import on Amazon uk. The blu ray has possibly the worst picture quality I've ever seen. Constantly flickering and jumping, what the heck is going on here. Just need people to realise how awful this is... What a disappointment. AL...

Re: Black Magic (aka Cagliostro)

so im guessing nobody has the Region 1 DVD or the Region 4 dvd to give me a review on PQ? The Region 4 one is from Shock who I think might be bootleggers, based on recent Flesh for Frankenstein release being done without directors permission.

Re: "House of Cards" (1968) online in two parts

For those interested, this one has a nice score that has an eastern european sound, like a romantic piece from Mr. Arkadin maybe, if my memory is correct. George Peppard is absolutely inneffectual as the American fish out of water in europe. Inger Stevens apparently looks good though I don't know wh...

yes, I noticed that last time I watched Indecent Proposal and wondered if anyone else cared that it was ripped from Kane.

Re: Jean-Paul Sartre on Citizen Kane

Ha, seems like you can talk your way out of anything. That's the problem with logic: you can prove things that are ridiculous, like 1 and 1 making 0 or whatever. If Kane isn't cinema then no detective story can be cinema either: both feature reporters or cops in the present investigating the past.

Re: Thoughts on the Trial

I just watched it again on blu ray, for the first time in years. This time I more admired it than loved it. It doesn't fill me with joy like Kane does (i'm funny that way) or excitement like Touch of Evil does. Its very good at being unsettling, and is quite visually stunning, but it ranks more arou...

Re: Chimes at Midnight & Too Much Johnson on Blu-ray

I don't know if any of you are members of the DVDBeaver mailing list, but some early adopters of the new Chimes blu ray have posted on there with awful news about the picture quality. Wait till the full DVDBeaver review to make your decision, but I'm waiting for Criterion next year now.

Re: TOSOTW - Coming in 2015!

I also wonder if some of the casual Welles fans who are eager to see "Orson Welles' last movie" will be shocked that some of it is like some "soft core porn film" and none of it is very much like "Citizen Kane." The truth is that, even if all necessary footage exists, ...

Re: Chimes at Midnight & Too Much Johnson on Blu-ray

That is quite a frustrating practice: releasing once with no extras and then loading a box-set up with extras for later this year? Is this a known practice for Mr. Bongo? Seems aimed at getting Welles faithful to shell out twice for the same product. When the box set is released, who will I sell my ...

Re: Black Magic (aka Cagliostro)

I've been tempted, since its available on DVD in Australia. My copy is a bootleg some kind soul here sent me, maybe from a laserdisc or something. I've been into all this foreign cinema lately, though, I've curbed my addition to Welles acting projects for the timebeing.

Re: TOSOTW - Coming in 2015!

I've backed it for a blu ray copy on indiegogo, really hope they manage to finish it, this could easily go south though, but its worth the risk to have contributed to the effort somehow.
