A lot of you mention the cannes version, which I am dying to see. Any idea where I could grab a copy? In one of the comments I read something about the national library in Paris, but I'm guessing what they have is 35 mm reels (?)...

Does anyone still have "Thoughts on Germany" and would be willing to share it?

Does anybody know what cigars Welles used to smoke, or what his favorite brand was?

Davidoff writes in one of his books that he liked "Montecristos" by Por Larranaga, which don't exist. He probably meant the Montecarlos but those are stick-thin cigars and I can't imagine him smoking them...

The problem with the beard was of course that it looked like Lenin's or Trotsky's. At the time OW had ties with the CP and was accused by right-wingers to be a Red, and when he noticed the uproar, he decided to keep the beard just to annoy them.

This is quite a good painting, very interesting!
