Re: different screenplays?
Mankiewicz made his contempt for Hearst too obvious and Welles took a lot of that stuff out. Mankiewicz made the character two-dimensional and totally unsympathetic because all he had in mind was Hearst. Welles supposedly did really want to keep the funeral of Kane's son in the picture but the budge...

Re: Susan's departure & Kane's death?
Dear sierra: I must agree with tonyw. Symbolically, Charles Foster Kane's life is over on that afternoon, but his actual death comes some time later. A piece of evidence to support tonyw's interpretation may be found in "The Newsreel." Kane is shown, decrepit and all wrapped up, partly sc...

Re: Welles at the Movies
http://azevedosreviews.wordpress.com/2013/07/22/orson-welles-never-really-liked-movies/ the interview on this page provides some insight. I think what he says about Rosselini is especially interesting. I'd also like to know what he thought of Billy Wilder. He wrote the movies he directed, something...

Re: Thoughts on the Trial
I think The Trial is a wonderful picture. Definitely unsettling, but wonderful. I love the hallucinatory and nightmarish quality to it. It says a lot about guilt in a brilliant way. Not guilt over actually having done anything wrong, as K explains to his neighbor, but the guilt that comes with just ...

Share your favorite Welles interviews
I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say I love reading, listening to or watching interviews with Orson. He was certainly one interesting fella. I'd love it if people would list their favorite interviews. And if you want to go the extra mile and link the ones you can, that would be marvelous. Mayb...

Re: Gary Gravers descent into PORN?!..:/ :O ;P
Welles commented on pornography in a 1967 interview with Kenneth Tynan for Playboy : "I don't agree with the permissiveness of publishing [pornography]. By this I don't mean Lady Chatterley's Lover - the sort of book about physical love which used to be banned. I mean hard-core ponography - the...
