Re: Adam Ruins Everything - War of the Worlds

I posted a reply earlier, but it must have disappeared. What I initially replied with was that I do enjoy Adam, even if his segments can get too hyperbolic at times. I have a session in one of my first year composition courses about the WotW broadcast. At the risk of over-simplifying the topic, I ta...

Adam Ruins Everything - War of the Worlds

Just found out from a friend of mine that the War of the Worlds broadcast was featured on Adam Ruins Everything last night. I'll be checking out the full segment myself soon enough, but I did find a promo clip from the truTV YouTube page. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avJ_DfAQtMY Should prove to b...

Re: Lives of Harry Lime guide

Hey Craig, I see where you're coming from. Apologies if my reply came off a bit too harsh. The debate about whether to put pictures in the book or not was something I thought about a lot mainly because radio is the theater of the mind. Finding a lot of great images in the public domain though made f...

Re: Lives of Harry Lime guide

That'd be great. Nice job on the study guide, Robert, which I picked up from Amazon a few weeks ago. Like the UM writeup, your intro mentions an entire season's worth of scripts for the Harry Lime TV show! Exciting, but surprising that Welles would invest that much effort, since he only wrote a few...

Re: Lives of Harry Lime guide

Amazing, that's the first I've ever heard of those Third Man TV scripts, or even about a Third Man TV show at all. I know there was a TV show later in the 50s, with Michael Rennie as Lime, but I had no idea Welles had planned one himself. Hello, Le Chiffre! Author of the guide here. I don't know if...

Third Man now on Netflix...with subtitles

So I noticed that The Third Man was recently added to Netflix. I've been meaning to watch it again lately, but I wanted to do a comparison with the version currently up on Netflix and the Criterion edition I have (which is the 2007 2 disc re-release), just to see if Netflix had a higher quality vers...

Re: Welles commercials - need help compiling list!

There is another, longer video for the Shreveport Bank where they discuss the "award-winning Orson Welles series" of commercials, from 11:30 to 12:45: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M09Kcj4mbpc Somehow totally missed seeing these. Thanks for the heads up. Marketing expert Judy Williams d...

Re: The Orson Welles Show + King Lear pitch for trade?

A sort of update: It didn't even occur to me to point out that I have digital recordings the 1995 Dove audio cassettes with Welles telling a variety of short stories. I could send them as audio files online or through the mail.

The Orson Welles Show + King Lear pitch for trade?

Hello, everyone. Looking for a couple Welles videos and not totally sure about their availability. First, I'm looking for any version available of the Orson Welles Show pilot with Burt Reynolds and the Muppets. The clips in OMB are good, but I'd like the full feature. I have seen that it was online ...

Re: Welles commercials - need help compiling list!

Here's another commercial, this time for First National Bank in Louisiana. The ad is in a video for a longer annual report, but the quality is pretty good and there is a behind the scenes pic to boot!

Re: Welles commercials - need help compiling list!

Thanks for the info, cartergold. I look forward to your book. Thanks! I'll admit, every little bit of motivation helps. I've also seen several websites online that allude to Welles having done commercials for Sandeman Port wine, and the "Don" figure on Sandeman bottles certainly resembles...

Re: Welles commercials - need help compiling list!

The appearance of these "new" Nikka spots are serendipitous. I've been wanting to see the Dietrich one since the summer and was literally about to give up on finding it just as I found the response post. Anyone else besides me think he may have had a hand in directing the ones for Nikka? F...

Re: Welles commercials - need help compiling list!

Three OW Nikka Whiskey commercials, not very good visual quality (undoubtedly from VHS), but pretty rare: https://vimeo.com/198077332 I've been desperately looking for those everywhere! I recently found a high quality version of the minute long Nikka ad on a Japanese video site, but have been hesit...

Re: Welles commercials - need help compiling list!

Found another ad recently, this time another ad for Nashua copiers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJv1daosMPw Easy to have missed this one, as the video description does not mention that Welles is in it. Research I have been doing puts this at around 1978 and it would have primarily aired in Austr...

Re: So...should I watch Franco's Don Quixote?

No problem at all, Le Chiffre. It was more of a general response to Roger saying that I think the one clip from Franco's version was enough for me. That dubbing is terrible! On a slightly unrelated note, while I make another visit to the University of Michigan collections this Friday, I'll be lookin...
