Re: Netflix films headed to Criterion; no word on ‘The Other Side of the Wind’
In Ray's recent interview with Philip Jan Rymsza (https://www.wellesnet.com/inside-hopper-welles/), the Wind producer is quoted as saying this about a potential Criterion release of the film: “There has to be a demand,” Rymsza said. “But I do have a basis for hope.” Rymsza seems to be suggesting her...

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix
Thanks Ray for all the illuminating interviews, they've been a real pleasure to read. This comment by Murawski took me by surprise: Even though we had the negative of the picture, most of the original production sound with the actors, the quarter-inch tapes, were lost. All we had was the chopped up ...

In his latest Indiegogo update, Filip Jan Rymsza wrote:
"A link to the digital download will be emailed on or before November 2nd and the official posters will follow soon after."
Apparently the links haven't been sent out yet?

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix
I, too, was happy to see McBride address the issue of Kodar directing the car scene (or any scene in Wind, for that matter). So far I haven't seen any actual evidence to support that claim, though I have come across plenty of recollections from people who were there that by implication dispute it.

Re: Reactions to 'The Other Side of the Wind'
Hopefully someone will record the Telluride post-screening Q&A with Bogdanovich, McBride and Marshall. I'd love to hear how they feel about the finished film.

Re: Criterion release of 'The Magnificent Ambersons'
Thanks Roger for the insightful comments! I take it Criterion hasn't consulted you regarding their upcoming release? If not, do you think it might be a good idea to let them know about your existing reconstruction? It'd be a shame if the upcoming Criterion release didn't include any kind of reconstr...

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix
Thanks, Ray, for the updates. Did any of your sources happen to mention how extensively the film-within-the-film was used? In my understanding, this has always been a major point of contention among people involved in the production, with some claiming that Welles intended the footage from Hannaford...

Are you sure? I can't find it on the site.

Re: looking for Roger Ryan Reconstructed Ambersons
I'd love to see this too. All I have to trade is an hour of footage from The Other Side of the Wind, consisting of the scenes listed on the film's Wikipedia page as well as a scene in which Hannaford blows out the candles on his birthday cake.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Criterion releases Othello on blu-ray
Thanks Roger for clearing that up. As it happens, I contacted Criterion's Jon Mulvaney to ask about the soundtrack, and received the following reply: This release has a new restoration and both versions will use this new restoration along with the original soundtrack. The 1992 restoration is not bei...

Re: Criterion releases Othello on blu-ray
Thank you Roger for your insightful post! I wasn't aware that the 1992 restoration was based on the 1955 version. You mentioned Welles's narration of the opening credits ("There was once in Venice a Moor...") as a distinct feature of the 1952 version, but this narration also seems to be in...

Re: Criterion releases Othello on blu-ray
What reason do we have to assume that the 1952 version will use the original soundtrack? As I understand it, the recently-screened Carlotta restoration still used the 1992 soundtrack with re-recorded music and sound effects, although it was apparently in mono this time.
