Hey Jeff, I realize this is an old thread, and I know we did some trading earlier, but see if you still need any of these (and I can even send CDs this time): 3-3-46 Fred Allen 11-5-44 Chase and Sanborn 8-14-45 Command Performance (90 minute version) Though you've probably found them years ago. stor...

Anybody heard Orson singing on some of his old shows? I heard him singing with Rudy Vallee and Jack Barrymore yesterday - that was pretty funny, and I think there were several episodes of Orson Welles Almanac in which he sang. He always sang purposefully badly, but it's another side of his talent th...

Four Men on a Raft may be the most haunting and powerful work Welles ever filmed. I watched it recently and still love the posthumous version. It still makes me weep. The scene with the little girl running through the nets reminds me of Rita running from Broom in Lady from Shanghai and the funreal p...

I never really appreciated the editing in The Trial until the one time I watched it while drinking vodka. Maybe I was in the same state of mind as the editor finally, but what I saw absolutely blew me away. I've never looked at the film the same way since. It is perfectly edited. Every edit cuts on ...

Chrissie, that Ebay item states that it is the Criterion release version on Arkadin, but I didn't think that there has been a Criterion version. Anyone know if there was a Criterion laserdisc years ago? I would guess that it's actually the print titled Confidential Report. The 99-minute version titl...

The "Dramatic Readings" CD compiles two of Orson's records on the Decca label from the forties, "In the Amercian Tradition" and "No Man Is An Island." It also contains the Decca recording of The Song of Songs from the same period. All the Pearl releases are great. For you truly fanatical collectors ...

I have a copy of the commentary by Peter Bogdanovich, Myron Meisel, and Russ Lees on audio tape. I'm in the process of converting my hundreds of hours of Welles tapes into MP3s and could put that on a CD if you like.

That Filming Othello DVD is probably someone's home DVD-R copy. I haven't heard of a proper release version of it, though one might exist. The movie is a treat if you can find it, but it's no F for Fake. Check out the home page here for the link to the transcript of the film. The unrestored Othello ...

The "Books By and About" venue is another rich vein for collecting and research. I have yet to finish Conrad's The Stories of His Life but I've been fairly dazzled by it. It reminds me of James Joyce writing at the height (or depths) of his mad drunkeness, or one of those impenetrably esoteric Umber...

This should be a forum for pithy posts - not character assassination, but it is open to the entire planet - so I guess we'll get all types, and we are all very adamant in our opinions, which don't always jive, and that just adds zest. How boring we'd be if we all agreed with each other! But if Mr. S...
