From seeing some extended footage of THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND, I would conclude that, on the evidence of scenes from his almost finished movie, J.J. "Jake" Hannaford is attempting to make a trendy art film in the Antonioni style: all those desert planes, steps, screens, and phallic symb...

Antonioni and Bergman, RIP

Two great film giants, although from what I've heard, neither was on very friendly terms with Welles. Strange coincidence that they would die pretty much one right after the other.

That's a beautiful rendering by Welles. Coleridge also wrote "Kubla Kahn", which probably inspired Welles to call Charles Foster Kane's lair "Xanadu". Perhaps that's why he wanted to be associated with Jordan's animated film. I also remember some article that compared Welles's ma...

I thought I read in Joseph McBride's new book on Welles that Oja Kodar and Gary Graver did a full edit of "The Other Side of the Wind" with workprint footage, and that those who saw it were not enthusiastic. Bogdanovitch apparently feels that the only person who could have turned the Wind ...

That link doesn't work anymore, but from http://radiogoldindex.com you can still get to the Welles catalog , which is actually probably the most descriptive I've seen, at least in terms of the Harry Lime shows: 517. The Lives Of Harry Lime. August 3, 1951. Program #1. Lang-Worth syndication. "T...

Good point, No Fake. It's hard to imagine Welles lending his voice to political or social views he didn't concur with.

what a great title for a film about reinhardt, HANGMEN ALSO DIE! A great title and a great film, too. One of Lang's best American films. It shows up on TCM from time to time. Can't wait for the Arkadin set, or Callow's new volume. It's a good thing he had the foresight to interview Robert Arden bef...

Thanks, RKadin. That DVD Beaver is an amazing site. Too bad they say they're a sinking ship. So, "Spur Des Fremden" is the one to get? The Stranger comparism page says that that version runs about 3 minutes shorter then the Roan disc, so I hope nothing is missing. Also interesting is that the origin...

It looks like a very interesting movie- here's hoping it gets finished. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Ferrario's novel has never been published in English, has it? Maybe if the movie gets any kind of U.S. distribution, we'll get a translation of the book too.

Knowles Noel Shane, I second your recommendation on Peter Conrad's book. I found it fascinating too, and it does have a stream-of-consciousness quality that makes your James Joyce comparism very apropos. No less a Welles scholar then James Naremore also praised the book's "dazzling erudition", and s...

I also think "The Trial" is a great film just as it is, but one of these days I would like to see how the film plays with that missing computer scene put back in, even though Orson Welles himself wanted it out. The film is quite baffling in many ways and that scene restored might shed a little more ...

Thank you for that interesting information, Andrej. I know Jonathon Rosenbaum described "In the Land of Don Quixote" as "amiable hackwork", but I'll settle for some amiable hackwork by Orson Welles anytime, especially if it's in his own original version which hasn't been seen before. I must say the ...

That's an entertaining review of "The Aviator", Glenn Anders. But you should persuade the people at epinions.com to install a function to make the articles printer-friendly, for people with bad eyesight, like myself, who don't like reading so much off of a computer screen. Fine work, though.

The snowglobe is a little too pricey too, although it would make a nice paperweight. I can't imagine why anyone would pay that much for a sled, unless they've got money to wipe their ass with, like Spielberg.
