Re: TOSOTW - Coming in 2015!

The new perimeters of the indiegogo campaign leaves more questions than answers. Are the new-found potential investors a resurfacing of interested parties, has the less-than-hoped for fund raising run stirred up more linked offers, and why - I would think people would be less likely to buck up if th...

Re: The Deep Rough Cut?

THE DEEP was not finished because Jeanne Moreau refused to dub her lines. It had nothing to do with Lawrence Harvey's death. Jeanne Moreau and Welles apparently had had a romantic relationship because Moreau was very jealous of Kodar on the set of THE DEEP. "You're going to do the same thing t...

Re: TOO MUCH JOHNSON Found!

Watched it on TCM tonite. Although the unfinished elements made a storyline difficult to follow, there appeared so many Wellesian camera moves, or was that projection on my part? I was also amazed at what for the most part was a pristine copy. My biggest problem was the modern tacked-on sound track....

Although Callow may be a spry '57' -- sorry to correct your typo Tony -- I'd bet he'll fall short of your wonderfully clever opus schedule... my guess, after Vol 2 'Hello Americans' (656pgs), he'll do some scrabble editing with the next bit, coming out with Vol 3, 1949-1970 'Dining and Dashing on t...

I loved vol. 1, by the way. it was truly well researched and featured some interesting theories, obviously biting almost wholeheartedly into the John Houseman version of the world around Orson. I did get the sense that Simon was digging around in hope of 'outing' the great director... Not that ther...

Callow does his drippiest glowing dissection on Brigitte Timmermann's book The Third Man's Vienna, published last month in the Guardian's book review section. http://books.guardian.co.uk/reviews....00.html Here's an excerpt, giving you a basic flavour of his impression of Welles' enthusiasm for the...

I'm truly curious about this latest collection that is hitting the streets this week. It includes a strange bundle and a drab, non-descript cover, which is usually a bad sign -- the Trial, the Stranger, King Lear and David & Goliath -- from Passport Int'l, listed at amazon.ca as $24.49 pre-sale and...

You have to excuse Harvey, his critical 'cut-up' eye was weaned on hours of Wayne and Shuster slapstick and Nestor Pistor musicalmusement.... :p Although Welles was not cast as a funny man, some have made mention of his ability to enjoy making light of himself during his early 'King Orson' days on ...

Hi Harvey -- I didn't catch Human Desire but have read about its similarities with Billy Wilder's Double Indemnity. How much of Hank Quinlan was culled from the original screenplay 'Badge of Evil' -- maybe Welles modelled Quinlan's drinking after the real Crawford? Of course, another connection bet...

This has nothing to do with the Universal announcement this week of Feb releases of both The Stranger and The Trial... Hopefully they have unearthed the best possible versions to set to metal -- although Uni is not know for including any extras , unless this is the start of a special 'Auteur Series...

on p. 307 in Higham's 'THE RISE AND FALL OF AN AMERICAN GENIUS'... "While shooting D&G in Italy, he kept Akim Tamiroff waiting in the backyard of the Safa Palatina studios so that he could work on Don Quixote between his scenes as King Saul. He would even direct his own scenes in D&G; ignoring the ...

It just so happens I've been wasting my time reading the thoroughly bad Charles Higham bio these days and came across his description of Welles and Cagliostro, which "fell apart completely in the clumsy hands of Gregory Ratoff"... it seems Higham's research didn't give an inkling that Welles activel...

I don't mean to play the attorney defending taxes, but let me say one last thing in mediocre defence of this newest format. The radio programs will always be available in their original and amazing state. That someone feels they could give new or a different life to these is, certainly in my view, t...
