Re: Orson Welles and the Unfinished RKO Projects

Thanks for the links to the other threads.

After reading everything, I can't quite tell. Is this a book of journalism and about Welles time at RKO or is it a critical analysis? I'm looking for the former.

Orson Welles and the Unfinished RKO Projects

Has anyone read the book Orson Welles and the Unfinished RKO Projects? Is it any good? Seems more like a critical examination of Welles than a book on film history. But I'm not sure. Is there anything you can tell me about it?

Are these lectures being recorded in any way? I would love to hear what Rosenbaum has to say.

Re: Criterion release of 'The Magnificent Ambersons'

Has Criterion -- who did an excellent job with the film -- stated why they didn't more thoroughly explore the deleted scenes? I do appreciate Professor McBride's contribution and his drawing of the last shot of the film, but I did expect a featurette on this topic. I just listened to a podcast where...

Re: New Ambersons site

Thanks to Wellesnet, I'm slowly exploring his Magnificent Ambersons' website. At first glance, it seems quite impressive. I imagine visitors from this site, will soon enjoy it as well. Perhaps Mr. Egan, will visit the message board here and engage with other fans.

Ray, that's a great story. Thanks for sharing it. Like you, I think that A Final Cut for Orson is indispensable viewing. I don't think I would have seen it if you had not shared the link.

Re: A Final Cut For Orson

I too loved learning more about the nuts and bolts of completing the film. However, the only reason I found the link to it was that Ray posted it. When I search for the movie on Netflix, I could never find it. Sounds like other people were having that issue as well. I wonder why that is.

Re: FX Feeney's new Welles book

(Don't want to get too far off topic but...) Yes, that interview with Jonathon Braun is also very interesting. Braun would show up at Welles' house and, depending on the director's mood, would work on a revolving slate of projects. Listening to the podcast, I was glad Braun was able to work on The O...

Re: FX Feeney's new Welles book

For you Podcasts fans, there is an excellent interview with F.X. Feeney on The Road to Cinema Podcast. It's episode #54. He gives fascinating background on The Big Brass Ring. He's a true Welles fan and scholar.

Re: Need Help Finding a Lost Passage

Hmmm. I know the quote. I can't remember the source either. But I heard it within the last 3 months. For some reason, I think that I heard it and not read it. There is a tiny chance that he said it in "Filming The Trial," in response to a student question. Sorry that I can't be of more help.

Thank you for answering my question about the text.

I can't believe I missed the presentation of THE DEEP at the MOMA a few years back. I only heard about it after the fact.

Re: "Orson Welles in Hvar" - new book on making "The Deep"

This is the "lost" Orson Welles film that I'd most like to see. Has anyone gotten their hands on the book? From the Wellesnet article, I understand that the book is in two languages and that it is 150 pages long. Does that mean that it's effectively 75 pages in English and 75 in Croatian?

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix

I typed "Orson Welles" into Netflix this AM (as I often do) and a holding page for The Other Side of the Wind popped up. The film is described as "A completion and restoration of Orson Welles's unfinished film, this satire follows the final days of a legendary director striving for a ...

Re: Welles working methods in reference to recording dialogue

Thanks for your very detailed and very knowledgeable reply. I understand that Leone worked in a similar fashion. Probably for some of the similar reasons that you described (budget, locations, etc) but also because he was working with an international cast. I found your amplification to be very help...
