Fantasy scenario: a comprehensive documentary is made on all aspects of the film's history, with original quality negative footage used as illustrations for the discussion of all of the various issues involved, from production, to content, to fate and legacy. Additionally, using the best available e...

Re: New documentary planned on The Orson Welles Cinema

Does anybody have an update on how this project is going? There seems to be several different websites: http://www.owcproject.com and http://www.owcomplex.com (the latter was referenced in the news item posted above). But both websites seem either dead or no longer updated. I'm interested in this an...

American Cinematheque: A Safe Place/Someone to Love

Didn't see this posted, for those in Southern California: Jaglom present to screen and discuss two of his films with Welles, at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica. Thursday, June 27th, at 7:30 pm. A Safe Place in 35mm, and Someone to Love in digital. Should be pretty good. Link: http://www.americancin...

Re: Chimes at Midnight - another new issue.

If Mr. Bongo can get the rights to this for Europe and do a relatively decent restoration, why isn't Criterion pursuing it? Seems like a logical choice.

Re: Official OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND Thread - All things OSotW he

Every film Welles made outside of Hollywood have issues with sound. Some ( The Trial ) fared better than others ( Mr. Arkadin ), but they all have audio problems of one sort or another. So this film having problems with sound wouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has viewed Welles' European work. Of...

Re: Official OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND Thread - All things OSotW he

Watching the segments again, one thing that I think is really going to handicap the film's reception is the sound. Because of the passage of time not much is going to be able to be done in the way of looping or re-recording. Does anyone know if the party scene sound is just a scratch track, or was s...

Re: Official OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND Thread - All things OSotW he

I know it has been proposed and discussed previously but the more I hear of Bogdanovich casually working to "complete" the film, the more I think that the existing material should just be edited into a documentary on the whole unfinished project. Certainly, if anyone is even close to being...

Re: Kane on Blu-ray

There is one questionable art direction choice that rivals the misuse of the deleted scenes stills on the AMBERSONS packaging and that is the Blu-ray label image for the KANE disc. The image shows three head shots peering through missing jigsaw pieces. Two of the heads belong to Welles as Kane and ...

Re: Kane on Blu-ray

A couple of the reviews are in and it looks like very good news for the CITIZEN KANE Blu-ray. This edition is an entirely new restoration and transfer and corrects many of the DVD issues that fans complained about; essentially, the picture is darker and isn't scrubbed completely clean of film grain...

Re: citizen kane scene

Originally, the scene was meant to be dark enough that the viewer would not be able to clearly see these faces, but the ultra-clean and overly-brightened DVD version makes it easy to identify them. Yes, if you (OP) ever get the chance to see Kane projected on real film, you will see that the scene ...

Re: Too bad they can't close Wellesnet Facebook down instead.

Though I have not been able to follow the wellesnet board as closely as I would have liked to over the years, I do regularly drop in to see what people are talking about and to see if there is any breaking news. It has, in that regard, always been an informative and comforting resource and entertain...
