"World premiere of new restoration" of Kane to be shown next Spring in California during the TCM Classic Film Festival, so says a press release from them. "The Festival will present the 70th anniversary world premiere restoration of Citizen Kane (1941) as part of a broader look at pro...

Re:
I saw it last night (Monday) at 5pm in Summit, NJ. Old crowd of about 10 people, I was certainly the youngest. I liked the film more than I thought I would, mostly because of production design and the pacing. And the Orson role was obviously done with lavish dedication. When it comes out for rental,...

Re: "In my father's Shadow" by Chris Welles Feder
I attended the Saturday afternoon appearance of Chris Welles Feder in Clinton, NJ. About 15 people attended. She said she had just had a milkshake for lunch at a neighboring restaurant. She then read a brief passage from the book and immediately opened the floor to questions. She said she wasn't awa...

Re: Preliminary Magnificent Ambersons DVD info on amazon.com
My intuition says they'll wait for the big whole number anniversary (70) and release it in HD in 2012. By then, the subject matter might even more closely mirror the American story.

Re: Magnificent Ambersons on PBS HD
I think new recordings of the pieces would be preferable for use in a restoration, recordings that could then be made to sound slightly aged so as not to sound mismatched with old dialogue.

Re: Magnificent Ambersons on PBS HD
Pretty sure there's no TCM HD. I saw Ambersons on PBS HD last night, it looked good. Can't attest to how new the print was, but it certainly wasn't blemish free. Good depth, though, and more lines of resolution (I saw it on a 40 inch 1080p Samsung) means better by default. I've never seen the Criter...

Re: New Mini-Series Borrows Welles' Description:
I feel the first season of Sopranos was the most consistent and original, and after seeing all of them, I think if I ONLY saw the first season, that would have been adequate [CRUCIFY HIM!].

Re: "I think it would be fun to run a newspaper" -- C. F. Kane
The publisher of the NY Times 57 year old Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. has said something that I take to be very cryptic: "I really don't know whether we'll be printing the Times in five years, and you know what? I don't care either." More: http://www.cyberjournalist.net/news/004038.php

Re: Favorite Welles' films? - Lay it down, yo!
This week's preference: 1. The Magnificent Ambersons [without studio alterations] 2. F for Fake [Color!] 3. Macbeth 4. Chimes at Midnight 5. The Lady from Shanghai [studio couldn't ruin it] 6. Citizen Kane 7. Touch of Evil 8. The Stranger 9. Othello [restore it properly and maybe my opinion will cha...

So what's the preferred protocol/strategy to make sure there's some Welles content in that chat? As many of us as possible just send questions in on the day?

Re: Blu-ray
Are old films on Blu-Ray worth it? After seeing all the screen shots on DVDBeaver.com, I would have to say definitely. And the bigger the TV's get, the worse your normal DVDs can look. So if you're on the fence about whether it looks better (and there are more than a few "classic" films on...

Universal's handling that, no? If so, why does Warners have Kane but not Ambersons?
