Re: Directed by John Ford airs on TCM (Nov. 7) - narration by Or

John Ford Film Festival Got me a pile of John Ford DVDs - here are my reviews - before I forget - Basically I find that Ford just keeps getting better as he goes along - I like his stuff starting from the late 40s on, the stories get deeper, the camera work is wonderfully stylized yet always very ec...

Re: Henry Jaglom recalls Orson

At this point, one can only speculate, but it is highly probable. Sadly, the gipper's ability to camouflage his voice is rather perfunctory. Not a good thing for a potential spy. I think I saw a Jimmy Stewart, WML video on Youtube - I wonder if it can provide insight into McBride's comments on Frank...

Re: Henry Jaglom recalls Orson

How come that lady in the second chair always makes the right guess? She's unstoppable. It's sort of monotonous. Coincidently, Reagan is mentioned in the McBride interview, where he alledgedly attempted to infiltrate the Communist Party... around the same time of his WML appearance ...

Re: Henry Jaglom recalls Orson

Cool Hitch thing - he's always stealing Orson's ideas ;-) - But to be fair to Welles, he was first in line in the guessing order - which is tough - the first person sets it up, then it's easy for that lady to nail it, it's even easier being the mystery guest - Welles probably coud have disguised his...

Re: Henry Jaglom recalls Orson

Hey, that's right, now that you mention it, I do recall reading somewhere that Welles was up for that part - a good fit, I think - but that gives me images of Akim Tamiroff as Tattoo for some reason... I recently read that Welles was apparently up for the Spencer Tracy role in John Ford's The Last H...

Re: Henry Jaglom recalls Orson

Maybe Fantasy Island would have been more acceptable to him. I hope he never appeared on Hollywood Squares.

Hallelujah Trail - Major Dundee

I scored me Sam Peckinpah's 'Major Dundee' - at the supermarket - with Charlton Heston - it was nicely preserved because the rack is just in front of the frozen pizza section - Ironically, this movie is very similar to the previous one I got, 'Hallelujah Trail' (at the pharmacy). Both feature the US...

Re: Marguerite H. Rippy: Orson Welles - Unfinished RKO Projects

Probably just a publisher's typo. I doubt that it reflects on the book itself. I think any book that deals with relatively unexplored facets of the Wellesian corpus is of interest. Just the amount of unfilmed film scripts he left behind is staggering. I think one advantage of a postmodernist perspec...
