Re: Marlowe and Shakespeare
My main point was not that it was old news but it's still not in the mainstream. Furthermore, even if more of this surfaces in the decades to come Shakespeare will still be the sole author in the mainstream. I could give many examples in all sorts of other fields where the evidence has proven the of...

Marlowe and Shakespeare
I have been aware of the Christopher Marlowe debate for many years. Academics going back many decades have raised many questions about this touchy subject. Well, not touchy to me. However, I was reading a book the other day, published in 2012, and it mentioned this subject, and so I looked it up on ...

Re: Welles' first draft for Kane?
I would take what Houseman said with a pinch of salt as he was very bitter to Welles. I recall in an interview he was talking about someone he was working with at the time - can't recall when - and he mentioned Welles. I recall he said something like "we're making real films"

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz
This is a comment not just about the guys who have played Welles over the years, it's a general comment about the better an impersonation is of the character the more dangerous it can be. The example I'll give is Michael Sheen who played the famous football manager Brian Clough in the controversial ...

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz
In the Robert Carringer book there's a storyboard titled 'Yacht Cruise' - page 145 - Kane has arranged for Susan's lover to have a 'fatal' accident. But is was never shot. However, it shows the rumour was common knowledge in Hollywood at the time. I think Welles once said if we'd included it in the ...

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz
I recall Welles saying on the BBC Arena interview of 1982 that one of the first big figures suggested was Howard Hughes - presumably when the film was called American. However, Welles then said 'I would have been no good as Hughes, Cotten would have played Hughes, let's get a part (figure) I can play'

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz
I was telling a woman who lives by me about this film because she likes Gary Oldman. And because of her it occurred to me that the majority, I think, who see this film are not going to have a scooby do (clue) about the 'credit' question. This is why even before the mistakes in the film are taken int...

The initial post didn't claim it was unprecedented, just topical.

Re: Arena: The Orson Welles Story
After I saw the Arena program on Welles I wrote to the BBC asking them what the title music was. They never got back to me. I had to wait until the internet age to find out is Brian Eno 'Another Green World'. It is a superb and haunting piece of music. Add the bottle in the water clip. It really fits.

I too backed the project but I have never even received a download, in spite of many emails to them.

Re: Marty Feldman Comedy Machine / Orson Welles
Yes, I think Orson did appreciate our humour. He must have seen Tim Brooke-Taylor on those shows and used him in One Man Band. And, of course, he was a frequent visitor to the UK.

Re: Marty Feldman Comedy Machine / Orson Welles
Orson was on the Marty Feldman show - November 1971. I came across two cuttings as he appeared on the same show as the jazz-rock band, Colosseum. I have the cuttings because I wrote a book on their drummer, Jon Hiseman, and we are doing an update of the book. However, the cutting's has Marty casting...
