Re: "In my father's Shadow" by Chris Welles Feder
My guess is that, in order to get Welles's letters published, they would probably have to go through Beatrice; which is easier said then done. I seem to recall some guy a few years ago wanting to bring out a book of Welles's newpaper and magazine articles. Needless to say, it hasn't come out yet.

Re: "In my father's Shadow" by Chris Welles Feder
Sorry about that; I had thought it was common knowledge - See for example, Matthew's response in the birth announcement thread. You guys shouldn't assume like that, although you're probably right about her identity being common knowledge for a while. In fact, I'm sure a lot of people on this board ...

Re: Christian McKay's Awards Snub
Too bad about the Oscar snub. Sean Axmaker listed McKay is one he would have voted for. http://movies.msn.com/oscars/snubs/?GT1=28101&mpc=2& Richard Linklater filming Christian McKay in his one man play of ROSEBUD. In fact it would be so cheap and easy to do Sure, if they can make Paranormal...

Re: Christian McKay's Awards Snub
That's a good point, Ray. Why bother getting Zac Efron in the first place if you're going to wind up marketing it like an art film? Of course, without Zac it probably wouldn't have been made in the first place. Yes Todd, that would be fabulous if McKay reprised his OW show, but considering how the f...

Re: Christian McKay's Awards Snub
ME AND ORSON WELLES cost between $15 & 20 million, but has just surpassed the $1 million mark in the US. Obviously it will not be a financial success
That's pretty discouraging.

Thanks Glenn, I hadn't noticed there were so many responses to the article.

Re: King Lear DVD
Haven't seen the Gielgud Lear, I'll check it out sometime. I did enjoy his Heartbreak House for the BBC, though. Can't say I was crazy about Prospero's Books , although I'll admit it's one of a kind. Maybe I'll give it another chance sometime. I also remember being somewhat disappointed by the Olivi...

Re: King Lear DVD
I agree about that cover. They should have used a picture from the production itself, although I'm glad they're relasing a higher quality print of the show. They say the irony of King Lear is that, although the character is in his 70s, it requires a much younger man to do justice to such a physicall...

Re: Hitchens bashes Welles's lunch partner
Good point. Vidal would and has for most of his career pointed out the hypocrisy that exists in both political parties. You have to ask yourself: How the f*** could the U.S. Government have allowed any financial institution to become "too big to fail"? 'Peace cannot endure if economic war ...

Re: Hitchens bashes Welles's lunch partner
I find both Empire and Hollywood to be among Vidal's most interesting books, partly because William Randolph Hearst is an important character in both. Hollywood seems to dovetail nicely with his later short book Screening History , in which he presents the very interesting theory that the U.S. gover...

Hitchens bashes Welles's lunch partner
mido505 wrote: "I thought Gore Vidal was going to win the Aging Ungracefully Award for 2010, but Thomson may just edge him out. Pathetic." That would be a tough battle, mido. Gore Vidal has been, to my mind, probably the closest thing to an Orson Welles in today's world, and it's sad (and...

Re:
Happy Hogmanay to you too, Glenn. Are you Scottish? But, in the picture, after a big build up, and a lot of power and charm from this McKay fellow, "Orson Welles" turned out to be not only a jerk but a cruel, vindictive, cowardly jerk, at that! Zac's character is a bit cocky himself, and g...

Re:
I understand what you guys are saying about the Welles character's two-facedness at the end, but maybe he thought that kind of hard lesson was ultimately the best thing for the kid, and it is an effective plot twist (I could hear it catch many people off guard in the theatre where I saw it). Besides...

Re: RIP Jennifer Jones
I thought I read in one Welles book (I forget which) that Selznick wanted Jennifer Jones and Orson Welles to co-star in a film of T he Apple Tree , but nothing ever came of it. She did play a somewhat similar "wild girl" role in both Duel in the Sun and Gone to Earth , but only the Powell ...
