Re: Reactions to 'The Other Side of the Wind'

"The Other Side of the Wind" and "F for Fake" are both playing at the Paris Theater in NYC on May 2. There seems to have been almost no publicity for the showings. And Netflix, which runs the Paris, really needs to upgrade and update the theater's website. From Google -- Showtime...

Re: Hunt for lost 'Magnificent Ambersons' footage in Brazil

The RKO movies ended up being owned by Warner, which is now owned by AT&T. AT&T would have to pay zero $$ to get back what is legally theirs. I think the answer to this question is far less clear than that. AT&T (through its subsidiary Warner Media) owns the copyright, but it is far fro...

Re: Kane on Blu-ray

While the loss of the original negative of "Kane" is a true tragedy, we should keep things in perspective. The current blu ray of "Kane" looks very good -- and very likely looks better than any film print struck in 1941. Would it look better if we we had the original negative? Su...

I don't see any family resemblance.

Houseman and David Ogden Stiers also play the middle-aged and old versions of the same character in Woody Allen's "Another Woman."

jbrooks, You asked if the host of this website has concerns over the producers' integrity.

No, I did not ask that. Your view on that has been patently obvious for a long time.

Re: Netflix films headed to Criterion; no word on ‘The Other Side of the Wind’

I donated to the crowdfunding effort too. However, I did it to see The Other Side of the Wind completed — not to get a book, Blu-ray, T-shirt or a poster. I did it for both reasons, but mostly for the promised book. I'm something of a completist regarding Welles-related books, at least those in Eng...

Re: Netflix films headed to Criterion; no word on ‘The Other Side of the Wind’

Re the crowd-funding, I am still owed a coffee table photo book and a blu ray. It's been five years since I paid the money. And two years since the film has come out. At what point do reasonable people start calling the entire crowd-sourcing effort a fraud and Filip a thief and a liar? Those are har...

Re: Hopper / Welles

The notion that a nearly 50-year old unfinished documentary by Orson Welles is going to be playing this Friday night at a drive-in movie theater in Queens is a very strange notion indeed.

Polly Platt memoir details Welles, Kodar relationship during 'The Other Side of the Wind'

The most recent episode of the "You Must Remember This" podcast focusing on Polly Platt has some interesting tidbits on Welles, Oja and the making of "The Other Side of the Wind." It turns to Welles around the 8 minute mark. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/you-must-remember...

Re: AFI asks: "Why do you think CITIZEN KANE is the best film ever made?"

much of VERTIGO'S success was due to Bernard Herrmann especially in providing musical accompaniment to those boring scenes of Scotty stalking Madeline while driving in San Francisco. Hermann's Vertigo score is magnificent, yes. But there are no boring scenes in Vertigo. Welles respected his collabo...

Sadly, it doesn't appear to be available on Amazon Prime any longer. Indeed, it doesn't appear available to stream from Amazon at all at the moment.

Re: Synthetic OW voice reads Poe's Raven

I agree with Roger's assessment above. This doesn't sound great. But I am still pretty impressed with it. The technology surely has a long way yet to go, but it does mostly sound like Welles (poorly) reading "The Raven." One could probably mix this (or something like this) with the voice o...
