The whole screenplay scenario sounds like a "Saturday Night Live" sketch.

I think you missed the point of what I said.

Anyhow, bad writing is bad writing, the sexuality of the characters has nothing to do with it.

I have to say though, the bit with Thatcher licking his lips everytime Kane comes into the room nearly made me spit my coffee out all over the screen.

Sounds like another typical "all homos are freaks" Hollywood script scenario to me.

Scenes like this would never have got past the censor in 1941, anyhow.

Loosely, there is a grey area between 1950-1960 when the changeover was occurring.

BUT films shot in 1.85 are created by masking an image in the cinema that has been shot 1.33 at the top and bottom, and many VHS releases simply remove the masks rather than zooming in to cut off the sides.

Yes, it's a confusing one...but there is little doubt that 1.85:1 was the intended projection ratio, the headroom seems to indicate this. I believe 1.85:1 had become the industry standard ratio by 1958, but Kubrick's "Paths of Glory" from a year earlier appears to be in 1.33:1. But there's a lot of ...

Have you seen many of Orson's movies? The fact that a great deal of his major works were interfered with by studios or financiers should be a major point of any presentation...apart from the fact that there are major works other than "Citizen Kane". The book "This is Orson Welles", which consists of...

I would like to order this CD, could you post the details of it, Narshty? (record label, cat number etc)

I went to CDNOW to look it up and it brought up two CDs, one of "Ambersons" by itself and another dual "Kane/Ambersons" soundtrack.

Hi SFT,

I haven't heard about the new Macbeth release, but I do have the existing UK DVD and to be honest, I find parts of it almost unwatchable because of the shitty transfer. What did you think of it?

Any scenes containing a lot of black seem to be littered with nasty artifacts.

The whole newspaper is an "in-joke" of sorts. It's a Kane newspaper, and on the front page is Jed Leland's Stage Views column.

The suggestion is that the events in Ambersons are taking place in the same universe as Citizen Kane.

IRREVERSIBLE (2003) It's always difficult when someone takes things to extremes, because we end up with extreme points of view. There's nothing I find more boring than the "is it art or is it trash" argument, because I think it obscures the issues of the film itself. I saw this film at th...

"The Third Man" is running in an art-house theatre here, using the 50th anniversary restored print. Fantastic. There's nothing like seeing these old movies in a cinema and getting the full experience (not to mention the full image, without crappy TV overscan). Just had to share... :) But you know, I...

"Ambersons" was the bottom half of a double bill, so can we assume that the $1m it took was from people who primarily were going to see "Mexican Spitfire Sees A Ghost"?
