Re: Kane on Blu-ray
It's being reported on a few websites that in a recent Zoom lecture Jonathan Rosenbaum mentioned that he is planning to record a commentary track on Citizen Kane with James Naremore. Also there is talk that Criterion might release it on Blu-ray or a 4K release by Warner Bros? That would be exciting...

Re: Immortal Story 62-minute version
Can anyone summarize what was cut in those 4 minutes and the reason for the cuts?

Re: Is The Mr. Arkadin Criterion DVD still in print?
Just looked at the Criterion website and the dvd box set is "Currently Unavailable" and there is speculation that a Blu-ray set might be coming soon? Sad news: The Criterion Collection website is now listing the The Complete Mr. Arkadin box set as "Out of Print." That might actu...

Re: Netflix films headed to Criterion; no word on ‘The Other Side of the Wind’
It is good news, in a general sense. But even if Criterion does eventually release this film, the backers--the people who were the first in line to put up their money--will essentially just have paid a premium to pre-order a title years in advance, and since Criterion blu-rays can be regularly boug...

Re: It's All True, again
I assume it's identical to the previous release that went out of print, other than having different packaging.

Re: THE TRIAL On Blu-Ray
Tipster told me that the StudioCanal restoration of The Trial has been acquired by a label for U.S. release on Blu-ray. The chatter is that it is not KinoLorber, which leaves several other interesting choices out there. That's very good news regarding StudioCanal's restoration of The Trial (and the...

Re: The Magnificent Ambersons Reconstruction
Can you elaborate on what this reconstruction entails? Using my print as the basis for a new 4K scan, combined with archival documents and reference photos, I will be creating a precise reconstruction of the 132 minute version, using animation and voice actors to fill all the missing footage and di...

Re: Criterion release of 'The Magnificent Ambersons'
Having watched the film on the Blu-ray as well as having gotten through the extras that initially interest me the most (I still have to go through all the rest), I’ll chime in and echo some of the opinions expressed so far. The picture and sound quality are excellent and easily the best we have seen...

Re: Criterion release of 'The Magnificent Ambersons'
A good set overall, and it's welcome to have a Blu-ray of AMBERSONS, but Simon Callow's interview is riddled with gross factual errors and repeats some of the damaging myths about Welles in that period. Apologies for going off tangent from your posted comment, but I wanted to ask you a question whi...

Re: Criterion release of 'The Magnificent Ambersons'
In layman's terms, how close would this be in quality to the original camera negative? CineCraft, what is it that you see in the screencaps that tells you that the source was an interpositive? I know a scan from the OCN is always the highest goal when possible, but how much of a drop-off in quality...

Re: Criterion release of 'The Magnificent Ambersons'
Can anyone who might be in the know comment on the source for the new Criterion restoration. I'd heard rumors (I stress rumors) that the cut camera negative for the 88 minute version had been located, but then again, based on the initial screencaps I saw from DVD Beaver, it looked more likely that ...

Re: Criterion release of 'The Magnificent Ambersons'
TCM showed The Magnificent Ambersons last night as part of its night of Agnes Moorehead films and it was a new HD transfer, very likely the same one that will appear on the Criterion release in November. The image was impressive with an improved grayscale over previous home video releases and the e...
