CK alternate headlines

This classic scene in CK is now especially topical.

In this case DT is claiming both headlines: both victory and fraud.

Re: Interview with George Coulouris and Bernard Herrmann on] “The Citizen Kane Book”

Thanks so much for posting this!
I've been hoping to read it... for a long time.
There are number of good quotes here,
and so relevant because GC and BH were right there, present at the creation.

Re: 'I Am Jonathan Scrivener'

Steve and anyone else,

Is here any place I can find this
"Interview with George Coulouris and Bernard Herrmann on “The Citizen Kane Book” by Ted Gilling"?

Is it oniine anywhere?

Otherwise, it would be challenge for me to locate Sight and Sound 41, no 2 (Spring 1972).

Welles and the automobile

Given the negative role of the automobile regarding the parallel decline of the Ambersons and their city, did Welles ever explain, in interview perhaps?, why he didn't drive, and so needed to be chauffeured? Did he drive when young? Or never? I'm guessing that Welles was much more likely to be drive...

Re: It's All True, again

The Brave One (1957), a RKO movie that made use of the Robert Flaherty story that Welles drew upon for "My Friend Bonito," part 1 of "It's All True," can now be streamed via Amazon. (I haven't watched it yet, but intend to.) Dalton Trumbo, under the guise of "Robert Rich,&qu...

Re: AFI asks: "Why do you think CITIZEN KANE is the best film ever made?"

I recall somewhere Welles noting that it was the complex structure of Kane that he was most proud of... Or was it that it was the structure of Kane that he expected to an influence, and was then surprised that it was not? For me, it is the complexity (both structural and thematic) and the speed of K...

Re: 12 + 1 - Welles as Mr. Hyde

12+1 is currently available at Amazon Prime Video. A decent print, in Italian with subtitles. It's one of at least 18(!) versions of the 1928 Russian novel, Twelve Chairs. Also Sharon Tate's last movie, released after her murder. We see her getting more pregnant over the course of movie-- which is d...

Re: Herman J. Mankiewicz biopic coming to Netflix

Nic Ciccone wrote: "If nothing else, the film will give me an opportunity to write something clearing up this nonsense once and for all. I've seen the Mankiewicz-drafted scripts myself, and the discovery of Welles's contemporary notes from Yale sheds a lot of light on the writing of the film.&q...

Re: The Other Side of the Wind screenplay

Thanks for your reply, Ray. Based on my casual comparison of the first 3 pages of the one I found and the screenplay courtesy of Netflix, they are the same, with the same typed print. Except that the former does not have at diagonal NETFLIX stamp on every page, which is a positive. You also don't ha...

The Other Side of the Wind screenplay

I found a screenplay to TOSotW here: https://www.scriptslug.com/script/the-other-side-of-the-wind-2018 Can anyone date this? Nota Bene: On p4 it says that Hannaford's film within the film "is not here described." Is this same screenplay that was published in 2005?, as found here: https://w...

Since this was the one movie on Welles' short list of faves that was unknown to me, I'm especially pleased to note that it has just recently been re-issued by Criterion.

Not at Netlfix yet, unfortunately.

Re: Pauline Kael - 100th birthday anniversary

The real scandal of Kael on Welles is that in this essay where she reprimands Welles for ripping off Mank, she's ripping off Howard Suber! How's this for hypocrisy?: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-books-paulinekael-howardsuber/howard-suber-on-kaels-research-theft-it-felt-like-rape-idUSTRE7A95IK2...
