Re: Trump's favorite movie
I'm currently writing about Leland's witness to the rise and fall of Kane's political career, which brought me to the similarities between CFK and DT. There are some notable aspects: 1) Kane's promise, after winning the election, to immediately appoint a special prosecutor to throw his opponent (Get...

Re: 4th sighting of the snowglobe?
In his _Young Orson_, Patrick McGilligan writes, "The glass globe can be glimpsed on a table as Mrs Kane signs away her son; and later another[!] globe appears on Susan's makeup table..." p699 "Another" implies that the globe in Susan's apartment is a different one. Can anyone &q...

Re: Mr Arkadin Plot line
Thanks for these replies.
The Ambler novel was made into a 1944 noir movie "The Mask of Dimitrios." Not at Netflix, I'm sorry to say.

Mr Arkadin Plot line
Is there an Eric Ambler mystery /thriller, published prior to Mr Arkadin, which offers the plot line of a "hero" who is hired to dig up witnesses to some secret drama, in order that the witnesses can be killed off by the one who is doing the hiring? I have a memory of such, perhaps mention...

Re: Thompson's first visit with Susan?
Re Rosebud as genitalia, I can see Welles choosing this since he thought that antagonizing Hearst would be good for publicity, but it also strikes me as beside the point. Kane's affair with Susan is not about sex, it's about her singing for him, etc. When Gettys sets up that confrontation in Susan's...

Re: Josh Karp's new book on TOSOTW
On p269 Karp offers a very brief but instructive comparison of Kane and Welles, followed by a brief comparison of Hannaford and Welles. Recommended. Also the book made it clear what a hard time Welles had with money: He needs money but cannot deal with conceding authority to those with money. And th...

Re: Thompson's first visit with Susan?
I now see that having Thompson proceed from the initial pow-wow to Susan presents us with this big hint that Susan is Kane's second Rosebud, since we have this direct skip from Rawlston's "Rosebud, dead or alive!" to the poster of "Susan Alexander Kane, appearing twice nightly." ...

Re: Welles quote re Susan as most important?
"Like a Kane counterpart, Susan is also viewed through different eyes and sentiments: . . ." I don't find that Susan is viewed through different eyes. Except for her version of Salammbo vs. Leland's. Apart from that, our view of her is selective, but objective. Picking up on this, Welles s...

Re: Welles quote re Susan as most important?
I'm sure that Welles did not mean that Susan was more important than Kane!
Rather, more important than Leland, Thatcher, Bernstein, or Emily.

The Megahey interview is also transcribed in _OW Interviews_ and herein Welles offers another statement of "I'm a king actor," etc. at p194f.

Found it. On p246 of the Frank Brady bio, he quotes from OW's notes: "Susan is probably the most important character in the picture."

Found it: This quote turns up in the 1958 interview with Bazin et al, p50f in _Orson Welles Interviews_, published by U. of MS Press.

Re: Welles and "King" roles
Yes, I did watch that interview when it was at You Tube, so (as you suggest) maybe that's where I gleaned that quote.
Thanks, Mido.
