Re: Indiana University website goes live today!

Terry, I've followed up on that with Sammy several times...

I think looking for a release partner has been an issue? And I'm not sure the job is totally finished?

With you, I would sure like this "Ultimate Edition" to come to pass!

Re: Indiana University website goes live today!

Doesn't the Koch Estate still own - or at least, claim to own - WOTW? I believe the Koch Estate has copyrighted the script, not the actual broadcast Understood, that that's their linchpin. Doesn't Radio Spirits still hold the "licensed" releases of the recording - and by the way of the Ko...

Well, NF, two words: "Irwin Allen" But, if we're gonna list near-misses like that ~ " 'The Adventures Of Leonidas Witherall.' September 07, 1943. CBS. The adventures of a boy's school headmaster who looks like William Shakespeare , and is very good at solving murders. This stor...

Re: Mercury Summer Theatre

Yes, thanks, Terry (he says, having just Zoomed some Bard, and prepping to do more...) Chief, I imagine everyone here knows that Orson wanted Aggie for his film of The Scottish Play. I don't see other Bard broadcasts from the divine Ms. M.? I also looked at records she recorded, and saw classic text...

Re: Cotten quote re original ending of MA

*sigh*

Poor Dr. Chekov...

Even within his own lifetime, folks were already missing the point. He meant humor in his pieces! Dark humor, yes; but humor.

He bemoaned this misread.

Re: Immortal Story 62-minute version

(And would anyone happen to have a copy of that longer cut on DVD? Lots of Welles to trade.)

- Craig

P.S. - Ed, I would think those cuts might have been for the French TV broadcast? Does anyone know if they are sticklers for the one-hour block, as American TV is?

Re: 52 "Lives of Harry Lime" episodes

I like the LIME series; though as stated in these pages, it's pretty variable in quality. Just heard "Man of Mystery" the first time, courtesy of the old RADIO SPIRITS Welles set. Sadly, it's one of the lesser eps., for me. Of course, the ARKADIN story is much compressed; but worse, it's p...

Re:Histoires Extraordinaires - Welles' screenplay for Amontillado nixed

he said he didn't like literal adaptations of classic stories Ah, our Orson - like many smart folks, a bundle of contradictions... That denouncement sure doesn't seem to apply to the bulk of FIRST PERSON SINGULAR/MERCURY THEATRE ON THE AIR/THE CAMPBELL PLAYHOUSE. And at its best, that is some of hi...

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz

Yes, once again the talent is greater than the man. Get used to that if you love film. ...or for that matter any other art, or any other human endeavor. But ~ ~ if you love humanity, as well as art, never put on blinders to that other side of the whole picture. Honesty is not malice. And it is also...

Re: Orson Welles and the Unfinished RKO Projects

My saddest "Unfulfilled Orson" is the potential DRACULA film he spoke to Bogdanovich about... Welles' respect for Authors' Intent, coupled with an OTHELLO-era Euro production, and with the promise shown by his CBS version...? *sigh* Merriest, - Craig https://scontent-lga3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/...

Re: Welles' casting of Tim Holt

In the Bogdanovich interviews, Orson makes these points: They screened Holt's B's, and he thought he was a marvelous actor who he found to be a joy to work with. (Again, added to that, he was physically within type.) As an actor who has also cast as a producer, I don't see a missing puzzle piece bey...
