Re: Confidential Report - two European Blurays from 2015

TCM did a broadcast of Mr. Arkadin this morning and I decided to do a comparison to my Criterion dvd box set and the Carlotta Blu-ray (Dossier Secret). TCM was showing the Comprehensive version and it looked just as good as the Blu-ray in sharpness and contrast. I hope Criterion will release a Blu-...

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix

An interesting video. I wouldn't say the workprint audio samples used sounded especially atrocious, but the clean-up certainly helped. Had the attempt to complete the film happened a decade back, I imagine we'd just have to settle for a lot of extra hisses and hums on the soundtrack. The overall une...

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix

Would love to hear Teresa's reaction to the film when she watches it, especially if anything she filmed was left out. Bob Murawski, if I remember correctly, has already stated that the bathroom sequence had to be toned down because some of it was too much... From Nersesyan's description, it sounds ...

Thanks for the clarification, Ray.
RayKelly wrote:...Teresa mentioned someone affiliated with the production contacted her before the Netflix release and invited her to a LA screening, but she is in Spain and was given 3 days notice.

Inconveniently handled, but at least someone reached out with an invitation.

Re: ‘The Other Side of the Wind’ being finished in Los Angeles for Netflix

I thought the Ice Cube Girl looked real young, but I didn't think she was THAT young. I doubt if you could get away with something like that nowadays. Thanks, Ray. Another great job. Squeaky Fromme taught her how to ride. Holy shit. Thanks. I spent a lot of time tracking her down. It was a lot of f...

Re: Workprint material for MR ARKADIN is on Dailymotion...

Someone has put another collection of Arkadin workprint footage on YouTube. This one runs about 23 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LixhbpsefoA&fbclid=IwAR2BdHv5FCE35znXUGwI4r41NwaaNNE7y9-1s2z6MNw_9xSKZxB9htLCQq8 Interesting, especially the comparison near the end between Suzanne Flon a...

That would be Mort Mills, I believe, as Deacon is not in the film.

...Who knew Adam Driver is a fabulous actor?... I was struck by his unconventionality and great comic timing after seeing him in the pilot episode of HBO's Girls back in 2012 (followed by the completely different approach he took with his small role in Lincoln ). I was very happy when I heard he wa...

Re: Student films recreating lost 'Ambersons' ending

Nice find, Roger. I wonder if the Black Crowes ever did a cover of that Wills routine. Welles did a cover of it for Ambersons with, iirc, Norman Foster and Joseph Cotton in the two roles. Correct me if I'm wrong. Only wrong in that you misspelled Mr. Cotten's surname! It's possible the Black Crows ...

Re: Student films recreating lost 'Ambersons' ending

Actually, the recording that is heard on the soundtrack is the radio version of Ambersons ! Also, it's probably worth pointing out that the original boarding house scene did not use a recording of a "Two Black Crows" routine, but a re-recorded version of Nat M. Wills' 1908 routine "No...

Responding to a question on Twitter last night, producer Filip Jan Rymsza said "there's a chance [fingers crossed emoji]" that The Other Side of the Wind will be released on DVD and Blu-ray by The Criterion Collection. I'm a little surprised that Rymsza would let this information out befo...

Just for the record, "CineCraft" and I have, indeed, been sharing notes and discussing a lot of Ambersons minutiae over the past few months, and I have greatly enjoyed our correspondence. I welcome a new reconstruction of the film as it will allow me to experience something closer to Welle...

Re: Native Son

Another possibility: according to IBDB.com, the play was revived for a second run beginning in October, 1942. The second run had John Berry cast in the role of Paul Max, Attorney for the Defense. Could the Lilly radio collection recording be from a rehearsal for this second run? Could that be John B...
