Re: Too bad they can't close Wellesnet Facebook down instead.

Here's one option: $600 + $108 hosting fee = $710 (roughly). Divide this into 71 $10 shares. Anyone interested in purchasing shares can indicate either here or on Wellesnet Facebook how many shares they want. That way we will have a record of how much has been pledged and by whom, and after payment...

Re: Too bad they can't close Wellesnet Facebook down instead.

Well, things have apparently progressed a bit since I last checked in. Some brief answers, since I am busy with work today: 1) Glenn: I don't have the time or inclination to get into your entire post, so all I can say is I haven't been in charge of the last couple fundraising efforts, so I can't spe...

Re: Too bad they can't close Wellesnet Facebook down instead.

To clarify, the site costs $9 a month in hosting fees, so $108 a year to run. The price agreed upon for the site as a whole was $600. I offered the choice of the domain and the blog for free, or that and the rest of the site and the board for a price, to which Larry offered the above, and I accepted...

Re: Too bad they can't close Wellesnet Facebook down instead.

Since perhaps some further explanation is needed: a while back, as you might recall, Larry announced he was to buy the site from me. You may call it mercenary, but after years of work putting the site together, moderating the board, etc, I felt I deserved a payment of some sort if I was giving up th...

Re: The Chinese Theater Sequence in THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI.

Much like Al Pacino in Godfather 3, just when I think I am out, they pull me back in again. I am locking this thread. This should not require any explanation. The new moderator is forthcoming shortly. I have advised him to get to know the surroundings here before handing out bannings, warnings, and ...

Re: Just saw Ambersons for the first time...

If I can step in briefly here, Welles did not lose final cut on Ambersons so much as he let Jack Moss stupidly give it up. Look for my article about Moss on the main site, it has more details. One of the real tragedies of Ambersons is that Welles could have gotten the film he wanted, if his affairs ...

Re: French Macbeth DVD?

The French set has the two versions we're all aware of, the original Scots accent cut on Disc 1, the shorter version on Disc 2, and Disc 3 is dedicated to extras, including a comparison of the two versions, the Mercury recording of the play released elsewhere on CD, and other stuff. The forthcoming ...

Re: Marguerite H. Rippy: Orson Welles - Unfinished RKO Projects

I highly doubt most academic writers have agents, as most of their books are not exactly chartburners, or even moneymakers in any fashion. And the reaction to what was probably some PR person's mistake is a bit out of proportion, I have to say. Should the mistake have been made? Of course not. But t...

This was not the 1992 lawsuit, but another suit in which she claimed ownership of KANE and AMBERSONS, due to a contract someone dug up. The case was finally settled, at least in regards to AMBERSONS, earlier this year, which presumably would have cleared the way for a DVD/Blu-Ray release. I assume t...

As I have mentioned before, Beatrice Welles' lawsuit is almost certainly what held Ambersons up for quite a while; what the issue now is remains unclear. Certainly Warners understands the stature of Ambersons, but why it remains unreleased can only be speculated on at this time. One has to imagine t...

Robert Harris is the guy who headed up the restorations of Lawrence of Arabia and Vertigo amongst others. Presumably he does not wish to alienate studio contacts by blabbing whatever he knows.

I remembered enjoying this when I watched it several years ago, and probably said as much in the Acting page on the site, but having watched the first 20 minutes or so again, it's really pretty poor. The opening with Dumas père et fils is hilariously bad, and it doesn't get much better. Welles is fu...
