Re: Lady From Shanghai
Thanks. Hey its interesting at least and the main reason I bring it into light again is based on the "Black Magic" movie. He clearly has many a masonic pins on his shirt and raises the question for me. Although he is one of my greatest idols, in actuality no one can prove it now.

Peter Bogdanovich Friend or foe?? (touch of evil)
I recently read a very interesting article.. http://offscreen.com/view/touch_evil It's an in depth analysis of Touch of Evil, however towards the end of the article it included a bit about Peter Bogdanovich interviewing Orson Welles at least asking him a question regarding the blind woman at the pho...

Re: New DCP restoration of "Chimes at Midnight"
My main question is which one has more detail. The Bongo, despite almost certainly being a newer transfer, doesn't seem to contain a lot. It wasn't a revelation in the vein of Othello or even Arkadin. An encoding problem? Or perhaps the "restoration" was culled from higher-generation elem...

Too hard on The Stranger?
Overall we know it was his most commercially successful film outside of I'm sure Citizen Kane(although I heard there was a battle with RKO, but I'm unsure), but nevertheless it seems that this one is almost faulted for being a bit too traditional although I do notice consistent traces of the maestro...

Re: Mr Arkadin as comedic?
Btw I'm referring to the Confidential Report version. I personally found the Comprehensive version more satirical than the CR version. I do not remember liking the Corinth version when I originally watched it perhaps I'll give that another shot, but I find it hard to top the Comprehensive version at...

Re: Which editions to get? "The Stranger"
according to DVD beaver the MGM version was the superior DVD version to get. Not sure about Blu Ray.
Be careful because next to David and Goliath I believe The Stranger has the most different public domain versions available. Seriously they're are probably hundreds of iterations I've come across.

Clip taken from 'One Man Band' documentary(included in Criterion DVD of F For Fake).
I really hope they release this as a stand alone for home recordings, I hated how Mr. Bongo released Too Much Johnson as an extra in Chimes and not standalone itself...

Re: Lady From Shanghai
What I am most interested in, being a HUUGE Welles fan is regarding most of this missing footage, namely the Fun House scene is having read a couple of interesting articles one in which a lady actually blames OW for being involved in the Black Dahlia murders...hmm interesting stuff, worth a read, I'...

Re: Citizen Kane - a good stoner flick?
meh, I think any of welles movies could appeal to stoners as far as his use of German Expressionism. Citizen Kane is visually pleasing but the storyline would probably be lost to most dashing to the fridge instead or engaging in the plot. I feel like The Trial would be the best choice for all around...

Re: Thoughts on the Trial
great picture, i really started to get into Welles after I saw this. This is just ultra hip and I think it will always remain that way. Dystopian society pieces are always hip if done right and OW nails it IMO. My only major gripe with this is the beginning, I really feel it takes too long to get go...

Re: Mr Arkadin as comedic?
But seriously I about blew this one off I watched once before and liked some parts, notably the scorpion/frog story and the masquerade, but shelved it and considered it like many unwatchable. This week after being on a "Touch of Evil binge", i literatly watched it back to back,,, I decided...

Re: Ten Day's Wonder
Just saw this recently and was pretty impressed. Granted it was from the 70s. But alot of the camera work was surreal and reminiscent of Welles. I wonder how much he had a hand in directing his own scenes as unlike some of his other acting gigs, post 50s, most just seem like cameo roles. With except...
