Re: "Around the World"

Very much enjoyed the podcast and I was so glad that Porchlight Music Theatre were smart enough to bring you in as resident expert. Thank you for doing it and sharing your great knowledge and research. I wish there had been time to go more in depth into the production history, but I was glad that t...

Re: R.I.P. Gregory Sierra, TOSOTW actor

Le Chiffre wrote:He was good in the film. Did anyone interview him about the experience? If not, too bad.

I made an attempt in 2019 and had no luck reaching him.
Josh Karp had only kind things to say about him. He tracked him down for his book Orson Welles's Last Movie.

Re: Magnificent Ambersons reconstruction

It will be interesting to see it when it comes out in 2022 and for Amberson's anniversary too. I have gotten some interesting feedback. Most people are curious to see what comes of it. Some people would rather just have the studio edit than see any kind of approximation. There are those revolted by...

Re: Magnificent Ambersons reconstruction

Brian Rose's ambitious plan to reconstruct THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS to better resemble Orson Welles’ original vision is underway with animation and voice actors set to approximate the scenes cut by RKO Pictures before the film’s release in 1942. https://www.wellesnet.com/magnificent-ambersons-reco...

Re: Netflix films headed to Criterion; no word on ‘The Other Side of the Wind’

Came across a website that is selling dvd's of The Other Side of the Wind. Pakistan based website DVD Planet Store is selling copies of the movie on dvd disc for $15 plus shipping. As to how they got the rights to sell the movie on disc is anybody's guess and how good is the picture & sound? No...

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz

NYT: The two narrative lines in “Mank” never make coherent, interesting sense, no matter how Fincher jams them together. The big news during Herman’s MGM years is the industry’s (and Hearst’s) propagandistic drive to torpedo the writer Upton Sinclair’s 1934 run for governor of California. The real ...

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz

One thing I found curious: Houseman and Mank are working on the Kane script while Welles is at the studio doing make-up tests for HEART OF DARKNESS. I had always thought that the Kane script was done in a slight atmosphere of desperation because HOD and Welles's other proposed projects had already ...

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz

Film historian Joseph McBride revisits the authorship of “Citizen Kane” after screening David Fincher's "Mank." He examines the movie’s flawed script, and how some lesser filmmakers are intimidated by Orson Welles and feel the need to tear him down. https://www.wellesnet.com/mank-welles-mc...
