Re: Hunt for lost 'Magnificent Ambersons' footage in Brazil

Wasn't the complete version found in the late '60's and screened by an employee at the film exchange hijacked by gypsies? If so, could they have not sold it to someone? What a pity this man did not immediately call someone in Hollywood and safely secure the footage! That's a new one! It would...

Re: MANK - Netflix biopic on Herman Mankiewicz

Wellesnet looks at how MANK perpetuate the Pauline Kael lie that Orson Welles did not co-author the CITIZEN KANE screenplay.

Re: Harlan Lebo book on KANE

Harlan Lebo ( Citizen Kane: A Filmmaker’s Journey ) has uncovered hundreds of differences between the Orson Welles / Herman Mankiewicz final script and what ended up on the screen — changes he says that made Citizen Kane the greatest film ever made. Read his findings on our website at https://www.w...

Re: Reactions to 'The Other Side of the Wind'

Paste magazine keeps updating its list of The 100 Best Movies on Netflix and, not surprisingly, The Other Side of the Wind continues to maintain a presence two years after its release. "The density is dizzying, the intellect fierce. In terms of Welles’ filmography, it’s like the last act of Cit...

jbrooks, You asked if the host of this website has concerns over the producers' integrity. I have replied that I do not. I have no desire to engage in a debate with you about a man's character.

Re: Netflix films headed to Criterion; no word on ‘The Other Side of the Wind’

Re the crowd-funding, I am still owed a coffee table photo book and a blu ray. It's been five years since I paid the money. And two years since the film has come out. At what point do reasonable people start calling the entire crowd-sourcing effort a fraud and Filip a thief and a liar? Those are ha...

There was a remastered DCP shown at MoMA in spring 2019. I would hope they used that.

Re: Hunt for lost 'Magnificent Ambersons' footage in Brazil

Could the complete Ambersons be buried somewhere in the Selznick estate, or at MOMA? Another long shot, but you never know. After all, as Mr. Egan writes, "in those days no one said no to David Selznick." I find it hard to believe RKO would have made a dupe print for Selznick — who then t...

Re: THE TRIAL On Blu-Ray

Tipster told me that the StudioCanal restoration of The Trial has been acquired by a label for U.S. release on Blu-ray. The chatter is that it is not KinoLorber, which leaves several other interesting choices out there. With The Trial being Studio Canal, I was doubtful it would be Criterion who wou...
