Re: Johnny Carson 1976 appearance

Quite the triple threat: Welles doing magic, sketching and guest-hosting for Carson.

Re: Gilliam on Welles on Gilliam

Well, that's the best thing Gilliam has done in 20 years. As someone who enjoys his messy and fragmented films, I found this one focused, balanced, and presenting a complete tapestry (including a lot of autobiographical touches,) with TG solidly in control the entire time. Who knew Adam Driver is a ...

Re: DRACULA

That's fabulous, an air check of the first episode, something I've never come across in decades of general searching for Welles' radio work. As Craig stated elsewhere, there's a lot of compression on it versus the master recording Lilly has. A treasure for we few radiophiles. Thank you for posting it.

Re: Reactions to 'The Other Side of the Wind'

I'd missed Rex Reed's take, from September 28th: "Picking the worst of 30 mostly forgettable films in this year’s event is very difficult. There are so many contenders. Worst of the worst, the winner hands down is an epic disaster called The Other Side of the Wind, comprising crudely edited cli...

Re: FX Feeney's new Welles book

For you Podcasts fans, there is an excellent interview with F.X. Feeney on The Road to Cinema Podcast. It's episode #54. He gives fascinating background on The Big Brass Ring. He's a true Welles fan and scholar. They also interview editor Jonathon Braun, who worked with Welles in the 80s: https://j...

Re: Reactions to 'The Other Side of the Wind'

it utilized a technique Welles employed in Touch of Evil, but not seen until the 1998 restoration. That is, at the start of TOE, when Heston and Leigh are walking through the town you hear the sounds and 'hub bub' of the various establishments they pass, with no music to encumber the scene. I wonde...

Re: Need Help Finding a Lost Passage

That's a perfectly valid question for the board, and sounds like something Welles would have said; I don't recognize where though. Maybe he was referring to the 'Rashomon' thing, retelling the same story or same scenes from different points of view; that seems to have been what most interested him a...

Re: Reactions to 'The Other Side of the Wind'

Chicago Film Critics nominees for Best Editing were posted this morning: - First Man - The Other Side of the Wind - Roma - Widows - You Were Never Really Here As were the nominees for very other category. At least they noticed Wind for something. It's my top film in every category this year, but ho...

A Christmas Carol (Ernest Chappell and Eustace Wyatt) (1941)

A dreadful excess of noise reduction, but a nice production for vinyl with some Mercury alumni

Radio Budapest's WOTW

No idea what year this is from, though it sounds like it was recorded off shortwave (and the lack of fading distortion tells me whoever had a receiver with AM Sync or at least 1 Hz tuning for single-sideband)
