Re: Preliminary Magnificent Ambersons DVD info on amazon.com
Fantastic news about Ambersons finally being released on DVD ... at long last. Yes, that scene is not in the 88-minute version - very curious indeed. It looks like something that would be out of the original ending in the boarding house where the other residents are trying to listen in on the conver...

Re: Amberson rumor on the web
I guess one reason is that dvd sales are down so they look twice at a movie to see if it's worth it to release it on dvd and make some money on it. Would Ambersons be a money maker in Warner Bros. eyes? That's a very good question ... perhaps it might not be. What I don't understand, though, is tha...

Re: Preliminary Magnificent Ambersons DVD info on amazon.com
This is maddening. Does it really take 5 years to produce supplementary materials??
They're probably secretly searching for the lost Welles' cut. Hehe.

Re: Preliminary Magnificent Ambersons DVD info on amazon.com
It absolutely is too important a title to be released in this format, but I'm afraid that historical and artistic importance could be overshadowed by what might be perceived as limited sales potential. I suppose this new format improves the chances of seeing a release, which is encouraging. However,...

Re: Kane on Blu-ray
Warner Brothers does have Ambersons. Sorta like the case of THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND, in another context, they claimed to be putting it out in 2008. Now, they have it listed . . . definitely for 2009. We'll see. Glenn When/where did they "definitely" list Ambersons for 2009??

Can anyone verify if the runtime listed on the Spanish Chimes at Midnight DVD issued by Suevia Films is consistent with the actual runtime of the disc? It appears that the copies for sale on the Internet are listed with a runtime of 105 minutes while Jeff Wilson described his copy as running 112 min...

Beatrice's lawsuit does seem to be a very possible reason for the hold-up - it might also explain why WB was so vague about its release in both this year's and last year's HTF chat. However, I've also been reading rumors about an impending release back since 2002 ... long before these particular dol...

Further proof that it all comes down to the almighty buck ... Notice how if it's not a popular high-profile title, Warner Bros. won't release a film unless it can be tied in with a special marketing promotion. I guess we will have to wait for a Tim Holt box set? Not only are we forever denied Welles...

In the "Entertainment & the Arts" section of The Seattle Times (7/1/03) there is an article about films missing on DVD. Among the films listed is The Magnificent Ambersons with the following comment: "Warner is searching for the best film elements for a restoration of Orson Welles' famously butchere...

You can find the Warner Brothers chat transcript at http://www.digitalbits.com. My reading of the part relevant to Ambersons , which actually doesn’t consist of any more than what Jeff already stated, is different. On the good side, I don’t think that there’s any implication that little or no restor...
