This wan't easy, but I got my hands on a copy of the fully restored edition of "Falstaff (Chimes at Midnight)" that was briefly released by Studio Canal about six years ago before being yanked back off the market. If you're a regular here, you probably know that this was a PAL DVD. I've re-encoded it for Region 1 and burned it onto a high-quality Verbatim dual-layer DVD+R (which was necessary because of the large file size--it wouldn't fit on a single-later DVD-R). I've tested it on two different Region 1 Sony players (one DVD player, one Blu-ray player), and it plays perfectly in each one.
If you haven't seen it, this print looks and sounds absolutely fantastic--much better than anything else on the market, including what is basically the best readily available Region 1 copy (found here: http://www.amazon.com/Chimes-at-Midnigh ... 884&sr=8-3).
I'd like to trade this copy for the newly released edition of "The Magnificent Ambersons" on DVD that comes as an add-on to the "Citizen Kane" Anniversary set. Since what I'm offering is very rare and took a lot of work to put together, I'd like the real thing (original DVD, box and artwork), not a copy. If you're interested in trading, please reply and to this message and let me know.
I have the restored copy of "Falstaff" for trading!

Does the cover of the Studio Canal DVD look like this?:

Or does it look more like the Studio Canal DVD of The Trial?:

The version I have is not the version released by Sinister Films (the top image) earlier this year. This is the version briefly released several years ago as part of the StudioCanal box set, so its cover looks closer to the second image you posted.

Have a digital camera, Jay? I'd like to add the Studio Canal Box Set DVD to the Ow Video Catalogue, but I can't seem to find a picture of it anywhere online. Someone sent me a DVDr of it a couple years ago, and I can vouch that it's definitely the best Chimes I've ever seen. If you (or anyone else out there) could snap a quick photo and upload it that would be awesome. What else is in the box set?
Re: I have the restored copy of "Falstaff" for trading!
Unfortunately, I don't have it anymore. I just have my copy. The box set also includes "The Trial" (which I also have a copy of and which is still in print as a standalone title from StudioCanal) and "The Third Man" in it.

Tell you what--since I don't have any takers thus far, I'll sweeten the pot. I'll trade a copy of the restored "Falstaff" and the restored PAL release of "The Trial" for the official WB release (not a copy) of "The Magnificent Ambersons." (Note: The DVD of "The Trial" includes all menus and supplements, but requires either a Region 2 or Region Free DVD player in order to play). If you're interested, send me a PM.
