Sadly, there is nothing more than what he already posted here: "The Magnificent Ambersons (1942, Tim Holt) finally gets a wide DVD release on January 10th. That's the same day that Warners also releases Citizen Kane (1941, Orson Welles) in a standalone Blu-ray book edition (as opposed to September's UCE). The latter includes a DVD containing the Battle Over Citizen Kane documentary."

Considering it's January 10th today, I presume it appears nothing came of this? I can't find Ambersons on DVD by itself anywhere.

I wonder if The Vancouver Sun's Katherine Monk underwent some kind of "live lobotomy" herself before writing such a ridiculous and error-filled piece regarding THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS. At least Ms. Monk notes in her "beautifully" worded review that the "Special features are a disappointment. There is none, except for subtitles in English and Spanish."

Retail stores have to wait until Tuesday put the new releases out. I think it is doubtful Best Buy will have it... maybe Barnes and Noble. I think imail order will be your best bet/

You know, I'd like to think there will come a time when Agnes Moorehead will be "famous" for her work in films like THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS instead of just being Endora on BEWITCHED.

This reminds me of a story Moorehead liked to tell about attending a party at a producer's house in the late 60s. The producer introduced Moorehead to his teenage son who was nonplussed. The father took the son aside and scolded him for not being more courteous. "What?", the son replied. "She's just a TV actress; it's not like she was in CITIZEN KANE or something." At this point Moorehead and the fellow guests laughed out loud and a slow realization dawned on the son's face.

Don't forget her performances in Martin and Lewis, PARDNERS and Lewis's WHO'S MINDING THE STORE. These reveal her as a strong comedian who, like Judith Anderson, did not mind appearing in a Jerry Lewis film.

I'll have to check those out, Tony. Never seen either. I liked her as the housekeeper in HUSH, HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE, for which she got another Oscar nom. And of course, her radio performance in SORRY WRONG NUMBER is a classic. I've got it in my iTunes library.

Let's add her performance in OUR VINES HAVE TENDER GRAPES opposite Edgar G. Robinson and Margaret O'Brien. Miss Moorehead displayed great range before she was stereotyped.

My earliest memories of her are from "Bewitched" and "The Invaders" episode of "Twilight Zone."
I was blown away by her when I first saw "Ambersons."

She's amazing in Jane Eyre. I saw this movie yesterday for the first time and found her very impressive as Mrs Reed. Although she plays a minor character (she appears about five minutes in the whole movie!), I can't forget her performance.
Agnes Moorehed is a very underrated actress. Sadly, a lot of footage with her was deleted in MA. We lost her first and last appearance as Fanny Minafer.
You made me want to see other films with her!

You are so right. She was wonderful Jane Eyre.
I enjoy that version so much more than the remakes

Not to mention the first half of the Boiler scene, which in it's original form, "flayed you alive", with it's intensity, Welles said. But that intensity is apparently what made the teenagers at Pomona laugh. According to Robert Carringer, the studio instructed her to reshoot it with the attitude "less is more".

Roger's story of Morehead and the producer's son makes me wonder if Ruth Warrick might have gone through the same thing, as a star of the ALL MY CHILDREN soap.

Agnes Moorehead is quite the accomplished actress. I definitely enjoyed her performance in Magnificent Ambersons. I have a question: I already have the Criterion LD of Mag. Ambersons. Is the new transfer on the recent DVD improved to a level to merit trying to get it (if it comes out as a stand-alone)?

Finally.

Amazon themselves will be selling The Magnificent Ambersons alone on DVD starting January 31st.

Unfortunately, it's still the stand alone DVD we saw as a pack-in with the Kane BD, but hey, it's a start.

I have both, and I think that the DVD represents a significant upgrade in picture quality. Now that it's coming out as a standalone DVD (amazon has it listed for about $10 right now), I think it's definitely worth buying.
