I've come upon claims that we see Susan's snowglobe after she becomes Mrs. Kane and before Kane finds it after smashing up her room. E.g. "the morning after Susan's premiere, the paperweight can be glimpsed on the mantelpiece..." {Bordwell). Or after her suicide? But I can't find it. Is there a 4th sighting of the snowglobe?
thanks,
Colmena
4th sighting of the snowglobe?
Re: 4th sighting of the snowglobe?
I think we see it in he rboarding house apartment the first night she meets Kane.
Re: 4th sighting of the snowglobe?
Yes we do, when Susan is smiling up at Kane wiggling his ears. But do we see it again after she is Mrs Kane? Do we see it between the time you mention and when Kane finds it while smashing up her Xanadu bedroom?

I checked this the other night and, in my opinion, the snowglobe is not seen on the mantelpiece the morning after the opera premiere. There is an ornate clock centered on the mantelpiece and at it's base is a decorative figure or shape that slightly resembles the snowglobe, but it is definitely part of the clock.
Re: 4th sighting of the snowglobe?
I've come upon at least one other claim that the snowglobe is found near Susan, after she is Mrs Kane. But I've currently misplaced the particulars of this claim. I've gone over the suicide scene closely, and can't find it there.
In his _Orson Welles_ 2nd ed, p 46 Joseph McBride claims that you can see it in the Little Salem boardinghouse interior! (I certainly cannot.)
He also says that in Susan's apartment it's "hidden among a clutter of bric-a-brac on a table" which strikes me as mistaken as well. It's not hidden. Granted, the camera does not pick it out for us, but it's in full view, on her chiffonier.

If it was visible somewhere in the boarding house then this would be a continuity mistake as the snowglobe clearly belongs to Susan who has it in her apartment when Kane first visits her. Unless Kane had it in his pocket and decided to give it to Susan as a gift prior to entertaining her with shadow puppets!
Re: 4th sighting of the snowglobe?
Or maybe Susan had already broken into the Western Manhattan Storage facility, and removed it from the Estate of Mary Kane!
That would explain why Kane was so stunned when he came upon the snowglobe after smashing up Susan's room! "How the hell did that get here??!"
And why he would associate it with Rosebud...
Case closed!!

In his _Young Orson_, Patrick McGilligan writes,
"The glass globe can be glimpsed on a table as Mrs Kane signs away her son; and later another[!] globe appears on Susan's makeup table..." p699
"Another" implies that the globe in Susan's apartment is a different one.
Can anyone "glimpse" the globe in Little Salem?
I can't.
PS So far (I'm 1/4 through), _Young Orson_ is especially instructive on Welles' Irish chapter, both the donkey-cart half and the Dublin half.
