Interviews from the 1991 Kane LD

Postby Wellesnet » Tue Oct 07, 2014 4:20 pm

One of the most unique features of the 1991 Kane 50th anniversary Laserdisc from Criterion, was a series of interviews with 40-50 leading artists of the day (including Richard Wilson, Burt Reynolds, Frank Marshall, and the late Paul Mazursky), and what the Welles film meant to them. Here are some excerpts from this special feature. Picture quality is not that good (again, from a VHS copy), but it's just talking heads anyway. What they're saying is what's important.

Thanks for this. I have dial-up (yes, true!) so can't get into it yet.

Another feature of this laserdisc was a running commentary by Robert Carringer, which I'd love to hear.
(Is it available in any form?)

Dial up? If I were you I would see what my public library had to offer.

I didn't know Carringer did a Kane commentary. I thought that was Ambersons.

My mistake. Not a commentary. Rather what we have is:
"A Visual Essay of over 100 photos — many never published before — by leading authority on CITIZEN KANE Robert L. Carringer covering such topics as: story board sketches; set designs; cinematography; make-up and memos on the Kane/Hearst controversy."

Here is "Reflections on Citizen Kane", a special feature from the 1991 50th anniversary VHS set:
